    Spyder Re-Imagined

I pounced on an Ebay auction to get a PTP Intruder gas through grip. It had this Spyder Imagine attached to it. Looking it over, it seemed OK. It had the typical rotting o-rings supplemented by plumbers tape on every thread joint. Once all that was sorted, I realized the ball detent assembly was cracked down the middle. I fabbed up a finger detent and cover combo to replace it.

The covers are so quick and easy to print that I glued the detents into the slot. Replacement will be with a whole new assembly. Quick and easy.

I also made a new no-rise feedneck using a feedneck design I have settled on for many other uses. It has proven to be robust and drama free.

I am having thoughts about drilling holes for a second detent assembly on the other side of the body, but I think I will see how it works on the field first. If I get any chops using the LTR, I will do so, as there is nothing to be lost at that point.

I also think I might need to find a solenoid seer tripper frame for this. Capacitor replacement is no worry for me, and I never had anything like that back in the day.

Just chronoed it up, and its shooting to 305 with the adjuster maxed and 260 with it all the way out. Should be field usable. It will be with me next field day so I can ensure I am at an appropriately fair firepower disadvantage.

That is not part of my work flow, but I will investigate doing so.

There might also be a need for Angel One detents/covers, just sayin'.

The chances of me spending enough to land an Angel A1 in my stash are exceedingly low.

        looks like my collection... lol
i was able to get my dream marker (A1 FLY) but ive given up on getting a SB.

funnny thing is, it wasnt a direct purchase. i got an old broken LCD that i got working and sold to buy a G6R 1st gen that was also rough. fixed it up and sold that later on for a 2nd gen G6R that was fully kit'd out with every available mod. thing was rough and not maintained but beautiful once cleaned up. Sold that later on to get the A1 FLY. This was quite a few years ago though.

I know I had to go dual detents with the standard ball-bearing type to eliminate roll-forward but you might be ok seeing as how the finger detent sticks into the breech further. If not, it's not too hard to add a second one. Just don't dill the screw hole off center like I did.

Personally, I like the way that Dye frame looks on there but the E-frame sure is fun. Can't go wrong with either.

Woke up this morning and checked out FB Marketplace over some coffee. I spied this stuff newly listed a couple miles from my door. 50 bucks! Looks like meat is back on the menu, boyz.

Digging into the first one. I don't think these were used more than a couple times. Its like a time capsule.

I spent the weekend pondering this sudden "wealth" of Kingman products. The outcome of this thought was that the best place to start was the bottom. The first Imagine had the most wear, but had already been rebuilt. I figured that drilling that body for a second detent was the one thing that would turn this turd into a usefull tool of emotional castigation. So, I went at it with tool steel and good vibes. Against all odds, it worked.

I shortened up the fingers a bit, and filed a second indentation into the bolt face for the new detent. Everything feels right, and the ball indexing is very positronic. This will be at the next field day for sure. Someone is going to learn that they can be shot by a shitty Spyder.

The other Spyders are all much nicer. They can await the results of this test to find out their fate.
