    FSR scopes and red dots

So, building my EMF out and planning ahead, I was curious what you guys run for your sights when using fsr.

I'm curious what kind of magnification is useful

I'm concerned about eye relief considering you know... Mask

    Any other considerations?

First question is how far do you want to shoot?

      Up to 80-90 yards:
I've tried nearly everything out there and came down to 2 playable options:
      - cheapest: a red dot with flip to side magnifier: cheap, simple, but you need them to line up so might need to play with risers
      - best: supremacy scope ... Just awesome ...

I have a supremacy on the SSR and it's awesome, don't adjust the zoom much as I don't feel the need, but I'm thinking about adding offset iron sights ... Mostly for the cool factor 🫣

Crossbow scopes were disappointing to me, but some people love them .

Above 100yards, you'll need a supremacy and adjustable riser and half a dozen shot to adjust the riser to the right range (assuming the gun can keep up)
Love my brass ... Love my SSR ... Hard choices ...

While cool, I doubt I'm going to drop $400 on a scope until I know I'm going to stick with this build long term

        I was eyeballing this
        https://ebay.us/m/iN1Yea

If those are legit sig optics they are a decent chunk under the retail I'm seeing elsewhere

Right now I have a sight mark red dot on it that came with it. I'm not seeing anything particularly wrong with it so I could try throwing a magnifier on with it.

How do I know if they will lign up?

I'd recommend a red dot unless you're planning to use this with fsr only. They have unlimited eye relief so wearing a mask doesn't matter at all (though most scopes should have enough anyway). Also no eyebox so it doesn't matter if your head isn't perfectly aligned to be able to get a sight picture.

If you go with a scope don't get anything greater than 4x; you want to be able to follow the trajectory of your shots as much as possible.

Near bottom of the barrel quality wise (ie Aliexpress, etc) will be fine either way.

Building it to be a fsr platform. I wouldn't be surprised if I throw round ball through it on occasion but it's primary roll will be a fsr sniper. I want to give it a try.

I was thinking 4x would be my top end. Most of the stuff I was looking at was 3x or 4x

This is what's on it now
            https://sightmark.com/products/ultra...c-reflex-sight

My brother in law who is pretty big into firearms said sightmark stuff is overpriced for what it is. Even still it does function and it's already on there.

If I want to put a magnifier with it, how do I know if they will line up?

If you want to save some money I have a decent dot sight I don't need anymore that I'll part with for cheap. I can even include a dovetail riser and a bunch of different mounting brackets

There’s a Vortex crossbow scope I use most that’s about $80-$90 that I like better than the gen1 supremacy… it’s significantly lighter, longer eye relief only thing is it’s a bit longer.. the gen 2 supremacy is closer competition.. the only advantage the gen 2 supremacy has now is the reticle that’s useful for quick sighting..

HOWEVER having said all that my standard build for my emf uses a 2x red dot because none of the fields I play at have engagement distances large enough to warrant taking the time to focus on a scope… gameplay is too fast

but really check out your fields and see what your typical engagement distance is.. every Southern California/Arizona fields I’ve been to has a near maximum engagement of about 25-35 yards, aka just long enough to make an optic necessary . Only during big games does it ever extend beyond that.

Most companies have magnifiers that are advertised as being compatible with their own given optics. Real steel red dots are also typically marketed as being 'absolute' or 'lower 1/3' cowitness height with standard height AR sights. For paintball I don't know if it really matters that they aren't aligned 100%. I think personally I'd stick with just the red dot until you've used it and know that you'd like some magnification.

That's pretty much what I'm leaning towards to get started. Need a few more mags and a way to carry them first but should be set otherwise.

I do want to change out the stock though

I have tried a couple different kinds of scopes and red dots. However, I found the scopes to be a huge pain with the mask and marker setup. The red dots were okay, but call me lazy, I would get annoyed with the battery dying and I would never have a replacement. So now I stick to the Armson red dots. No batteries and I find I sight with them almost as fast as I do just sighting down the marker. If I need magnification on my shot I just squint real hard.

I got a shotgun clip on bead sight and just point shoot them. Helps that my FS delivery system is phantom based so it’s easy to aim that way.

Here's what I'm working with so far. I'm going to be selling off the stock and freak xl barrel but otherwise the red dot stays for now

I use a cheap red dot. No need for magnification for 95% of the games that I play. Just a simple dot is perfect, it doesnt get in the way like circles or crosshair dots. Any time I've mounted a scope, I take it right back off because its just bulky. Just a red dot, and they make little clear shields to protect the lense that mount on the same tac rail.
