    Hammer 7 Build

One of these recently sold on here and i couldnt get it outta my mind so here we are.

Nothing is in my hands just yet but ill
    update as packages show up.

going for a roundball, hpa setup. id like it to shoot like my other nelsons. phantoms and bushys that take inserts, shoot lazers and reliably a/t when needed.
i like for my markers to do "all things they normally do but better"

As a little backround, ive never played magfed and never been much of a spyder guy. Love nelsons, love scottieb 's collection! And i love a limited paint setup. the idea of the H7 seduced me even though, otherwise, i dont have much interest in magfed markers.

Starting out with a pretty clean looking example with the od green upper. its coming from canada and shipped yesterday, we will see how long things take.

in my hurried research, my chronically online brain and Chuck E Ducky 's great advice lead me to a few revelations on this platform.

    goals im shooting for :

Lower operating psi (800psi would be ideal so i dont have to fool with my tank reg)

    cf20 mag compatibility

    freak bored barrel

~100+ balls per fill on my 15/4500 hpa tank

reliable (minimal breaks) feeding even while a/t for short bursts

Chuck has been a great source of knowledge on these things and advised filling in the flat of the bolt (or commissioning a new, turned unit) for lowering psi, penny mod to eliminate venting, and mods to allow for the superior DAM and Eclipse mags.

There are a few options for printed lowers that allow the 7s to use these mags but ive opted to go for a "Sky King". Zack was very responsive and easy to deal with. His lowers take ar style grips so you could use a cci/spyder/icd .45 or anything else that would fit.
ive got a cheap magpul grip ordered to pair with one of his SLS/MJF pro printed lowers.

For barrel, ive got a 14" rifled Tru Flight coming off ebay
i plan to get bored for standard freak inserts.
measurements should work out for the stock pump handle but i might come up with something custom. i like the idea of underbarrel pump over "bolt action" that a lot of guys convert these over to. but ill see how it feels once its in hand.

For mags, i went with 5x eclipse cf20 mags after reading that the newer, "pro" versions have issues with popping apart.

i picked up a neimoller rig second hand a while ago and im going to try to run my setup out of that. this is a repro piece made by kommando store in collaboration with the inventor and original factory that produced these in the 80s. i love bush war surplus and tech and all the history behind it so i grabbed one of these when i saw a used one up for a great price.
probably overkill for carrying 4 mags and some micro fibers but cool to get some use out of something id otherwise just have hanging up with the rest of my collection of larpy stuff. saves me from buying more stuff and should get me some street cred points with the airsoft/bubba/milsim guys at our field/events

    https://youtu.be/praMYY-ckeM?si=_mzEQcoOHrbMxuie

no plans to run any sort of optics. seems too much for just roundball

any criticism, Hammer7 tips or info is greatly appreciated! a big part of me feels like im going thru a bunch of trouble for something im gunna use a few times and get rid of! but ya gotta scratch the itch!!

The pump action really isn’t all that bad after you add the penny shim to keep it from over throwing the valve on a hard pump. (Think Phantom with the pump rod adjusted to long)

You can loosen the guide rod out a lil and get it to stop but then it’s kind of just floating around in there. It’s best to drop a penny in and JB weld it in place. Some freak barrels need the handle clearances adjusted something dowel shaped warped in sand paper makes quick work of it. You can definitely get it Nelson smooth.

When you get it pull the internals you will see what I mean about the flat bottom on the bolt. It’s the reason they need such high pressure. It’s basically a massive pressure leak that follows the path of least resistance into the mag area instead of propelling the ball like a good Nelson should. There is no bolt tip oring as well. I believe they did this to stop the hammer mags from clipping paint due to high spring pressure. The Dam mag mods eliminate a lot of issues. I have filled the flat area of the bolt made it match the top and got them to hit field speeds no clipping at 800psi input. The ones I built using another members method with just taking it a lil further made for a very reliable mag fed pump.

Back then they were all in the early stages of expensive junk. The Dammer7 shot Money. I got them for like $60 when they stopped producing them. For $150 you could make them shoot better than anything currently available at the time.

I put an ASA off the grip frame so I could aim down it like a regular pump and use to cook with it at the local mag feed events. I didn’t need big sights or kit or risers because I could get behind it to just point shoot it and First Strikes well they shoot so flat it was paintball on easy mode. I started to build them in response to them not letting me use my SC phantom anymore at MagFed Events. I built a bunch for local guys.

That printed mag well saves a hell of a lot of work drilling tapping and cutting. I wonder if you still have to notch the bottom to get the mag right up against the breach or it hold one in the frame with a detent system. It’s cool you can put AR style grips on it. I got a printed 86* frame I can send yah if you want it.

Think of mag fed as "advanced stock class" and it's easier to digest.

idk about "advanced" stock class, 12g and rock n cock is the top of the mountain to me.

its like a mutant modstock airsoft bastard child

      the only
saving grace for me is that this thing is a pump.
i still dont really care for semi/full auto mag fed

      unless we're talking smg68s 😁

      The useless Tippmann lol

I ran my hammer 7 only with one 10 round mag and a Vietnam ak47 chest rig and ten round tubes

      It was pretty fun

I liked the idea of it more than the Reality of playing it. My reasons for playing were wrong. I disliked the elitist attitudes when the format was in the early stages. I tried to build the most anti-mag fed mag fed guns that would fit within the rules. For me, it was really about just trolling The Gravy Seals.

We use to have a big MagFed group that were really good players but it kind of ate itself over a few female player drama that got passed around. I’m talking like 25+ member team that maybe I see 4 still play now. They use to be really skilled mag fed players. Guys that could really gunfight it was good times.

When we would travel outside our home field the game play was just Meh. Long waits in the staging area killed it for me. These guys were more interested in chatting about useless excessories and fluffing there egos then playing. The extra gear meant they didn’t “feel” hits so there was a lot of that too.

I feel like now that it’s less of a click. I feel like people are playing it more for fun and less to prove its legitimacy as a paintball format, and it’s better for it. I got a bolt action First Strike Phantom and my Creeper Customs single shot is cut for First Strikes if I get the Itch to play it. I hand load them one at a time and can do some serious work with the added accuracy. The mag fed guys have a ton of extra gear so they make themselves big targets with massive amounts of hard surfaces to break on. I have had close quarter first strike games that every single shot was an elimination. Its less challenging then playin pump against the North East shooters that’s for sure.

gravy seals is so good theres got to be a patch out there

and yes if playing stock class is the top of the mountain, playing the North East guys is the tippy tip of that top

The level of play is incredible we are really blessed to have the group of ballers we do. I can’t wait for next season and really start training the kids to play pump.

my barrel (s) showed up today!
only meant to grab one, but a seller accepted my lowball so ive got a 2nd. good thing since the first was packaged terribly and the threaded end is
    crushed!
does anyone know if that section can be discarded when freak boring?
is a freak bore even possible? these seem very thin

lastly, heres a Price style photoshop of the planned build 😁

Ok, sending the barrels out to BMC and in our talks, Brandon mentioned that he is able to rethread H7 breeches for cocker threads!
Something to keep in mind for the future, might try to find another breech.
Also in talks to have him turn me a bolt like Chuck E Ducky schooled me on.

See if he can add a breach Oring like a Phantom bolt that would make a massive difference. It would be easier on paint more efficient and operate at much lower input pressures.

Spyder barrels are a lot cheaper and plentiful I don’t really see the benefit going with cocker threads.

I might have one of those tactical stocks somewhere for the 2” round tanks.

im sure he had someone in the past ask for that is the reason he mentioned it.

the ebay seller is giving me a partial refund after trying to argue that the damage was clearly visible in his pictures. his first pic, the end is totally out of focus and the other one is at just the right angle where you cant tell. i couldnt believe it when he tried to blame it on "you shouldve known better, you saw the pictures."

Ends up, BMC is not able to turn a bolt. I will
look elsewhere. Ive also got some lapco internals in the mail, Chuck E Ducky. I cant remember if you said the H7 is a weird, proprietary size? is it just the diameter of the breech? i would think the bolt tips are the same?

I think it would be pure luck if Lapco internals will fit. It’s Nelson based but mostly brass. It’s dose kind i or f look like a brass Lapco bolt with the bottom of the bolt face flat. Without having both I haven’t the slightest clue.

What if you used the back brass half and made a Delrin tip for the bolt so it seals on the breach you would have to shorten the bolt then attach like a normal bolt face somehow. Weren’t there some old bore drops bolts that were built like that. Keep in mind you sill need that IVG. Having to adjust velocity with springs would be a big draw back especially with the fluctuations in velocity of different rounds.

Maybe if you cut fine threads into the outside diameter then made a collar that went on the outside or slip fit over it.

Then again the one bolt face I filled with JB weld and sanded to shape was still holding up after like 10 years on the one I did. Last time I seen him a few years ago he was still shooting it and said it still shoots great. He got an MG100 at some point but actually prefers shooting the hammer with FS he’s made it bolt action and got a big scope on it so it looks cool. I should have taken a picture of it. I just made it function good. He made it look good.

And THE HAMMALAMMA DiNGDONG showed up today!
          Man, these are so fun!
i cant pick it up without smiling!

Also, even though the neimoller rig is supercool, i think this belt+pouches set up will be much more effective.
streamlined and more appropriate for sure, plus i dont have to mess up a nice "historic" piece with paintball fied gunk. mega cheepo chinesium off the 'zon, i chopped the pouches up a bit. got rid of the extra pistol mag holders and velcros and swapped the ar sized paracord for some longer lengths so the eclipse mags fit. those also came in, along with my magpul grip.

            update

got my nelson internals today from ThatBobbyjoe today at OUR Xmas Sweater game (very last minute, we had a smaller group and just mixed in with rentals 6v6 mostly)

looks like the hammer and more importantly the bolt will fit!

there is some incompatibility with the kingman internals.
Lapco Bolt wont fit the stock hammer tip, other way around seems to work but WE AiNT USiN THAT KANGMiN BOLT
the powertube is too fat for the valve cap and the chamber spring is too long.
im also going to have to swap the hammer sear and fab pump arm bolts.
before i do anything irreversible, i want to test the stock guts when my barrels return from the spinny scrapey man.

i dont think these internals have ever been used. theyre way too shiny with zero wear!

Thanks for the rad mask too, ThatBobbyjoe!

ID:	772580 Sky King Lower came in!
Ive never held such a high quality print before.
You really have to look close and roll it around in the right light to see the layers and even then they are only visible in a few, small spots.
all the chamfers are very well thought out, mag changes are effortless compared to the stock hammer7 lower, and the fitment seems perfect, once i remove the material from the upper ill be able to confirm. The surface is indistinguishable from the magpul grip.
            Highly recommend Zack's work!

ThatBobbyjoe ill post pictures of everything once my barrels come back and I start my side by side comparisons/testing

            And another kitchen floor mockup!
man that lower looks great on there, shoulda been stock! Kingman, how about a Hammer8??

Ok so you do have to remove material off the bottom of the Hammer body. So it doesn’t hold a round in the lower above the mag. Some of the early dye mag adaptations held a round between the mag and the chamber with a detent to offset the adapter so you don’t have to clearance the body. This design is better because the mag will sit right up against the breach nice and tight and will load a ball right into the chamber off the top of the mag. On an empty mag the follower should enter the breach and hold it open too.

Should feed really good for you I think it’s a better design. I love that it takes AR grips that add some cool options for grips and bottom line mounts.

You have to permanently mod the body but it’s not like anyone would ever want to go back to the hammer mags after using Plants continuous feed mags.

Multi tool with a metal blade and hand file works great if you don’t have access to a mill. The aluminum cut’s easy. Cutting wheel and a grinder will do if you got steady hands. Just want that mag sitting flush against the body where the mag lines up with the breach. It’s all hidden just need to clearance for that bigger mag.

The lower fits perfectly, even before chopping the upper.
zero slop and easy to see where to scribe by looking into the magwell.
didnt see until just now but this is the 7th revision to the design! always nice to see guys refining and perfecting things, going through the extra effort to elevate their products.
