    Optics Protection

I'm nearly done kitting out my Milsig M17 as a dedicated FSR platform. One thing that has me wondering is whether or not it's worth protecting the lens on my crossbow scope. If so, what's the best option for this? I've seen those flip-up protectors, but it looks like those would snap off on the first hit. Thoughts?

I've seen some decent airsoft polycarbonate lens protectors, they're pretty good and at the very least better than nothing

How much did your optic cost? Lens protector is $20. Shields are sacrificial. How many times have you been shot directly in the feedneck?

$80 scope. Not expensive, but not exactly cheap either. I get what you're saying, but I've also seen shots go directly into a barrel before.

I come from Airsoft, so the conversation literally is, "Look cool, vs utility" It is up to you if you think it is worth protecting. I have also used a piece of metal mesh wrapped around the front, secured around with a zip tie. That worked for many many bb strikes.

Not a bid idea. For me, I'm all about the utility. You'll never see me out there in a full kit complete with a plate carrier and helmet. If it doesn't serve a specific purpose, it's gone.

I ended up grabbing a scope cover with a honeycomb and clear flip up cap for only $13. I’m hoping that the two layers together would be sacrificial enough to save the main lens without getting in the way.

            FSR

I'm building a long range setup as well. The accuracy and range of the FSR make the optics useful

Exactly this. If I were playing at typical distances, it likely wouldn’t be with a magfed setup. I’d be shooting roundball from a more conventional marker. This setup is being put together with events more like Supergame in mind where FSR can reach targets far outside the range of normal roundball.
