NX-1 Sentinel pump settings

I just got a brand new NX-1 Sentinel pump gun, which came with no instructions whatsoever (...)

What would be the stock setting for the outer pressure adjusting screw and the smaller, inner velocity screw on the Guardian reg (say in terms of many turns out from fully screwed in)? Both on mine were very loose out of the box, as if they had been turned too far out. I don't have a reg pressure tool, but I'll eventually build one myself, hence why I need to know more about the outer reg screw setting.

With the Nova I had, I just used the IVG to change velocity. I never found a reason to adjust the regulator. I've heard that the guardian regulator has improved but I had an early version of it and it was complete trash. So I put a CP regulator on my nx1.

I had an Empire Sniper 10 years ago which was fairly simple to adjust, so I'm not that worried. Mind you, the Sniper reg did have a gauge for the pressure. I remember setting the IVG a certain way and never having to touch it again, as I adjusted velocity with the reg.

I'll build a reg tester before spring comes and experiment. In the meantime, I'll ask Nova directly about the recommended settings.

Traditionally it’s best to leave the reg where it is. This is why there is a V in “IVG”.

I’m not sure it’s possible to tell someone how to hit 280 fps with a brand new gun using only words. If the reg isn’t fixed then it needs to be set to relatively the correct pressure and then adjusted from there with the IVG.

If operating pressure is way off you will still be able to hit 280 by cranking up/down the IVG but you won’t get the same number of shots or consistency or to some extent even pump stroke. A sniper can run OK in the wrong range but you’re not getting the full package.

You're absolutely right. Besides I just remembered that I *did* adjust velocity on my Sniper through the IVG and not the reg, which I always left at the same pressure. I got confused with the B&M Cocker I had... 30 years ago (which had no reg, I just adjusted velocity by removing the cocking rod and playing around with the screw).

I'll build a reg tester sooner than later and that'll be it.

I found that they typically run around 230 to 250 psi. Last night I put a Nova valve and Hammer in my Shocktech cocker (Mini Body) and it sweet spotted around 250psi.

I saw a YT review from Docfire and he mentioned about 300psi with the IVG at one turn in from flush, yielding about 285 fps.

Everything set up is going to be different. I've worked on a few of these nx1 snipers and they ran at the pressures I mentioned previously.

I got around to build a reg tester and set the reg at 280psi as a benchmark (as per what TJ from Nova advised). I found that 300psi and 3 turns in from flush on the IVG would yield a steady 280fps average.

300psi would seem a little high according to what Chuck mentioned. When I'll resume playing in April, I'll lower the reg (within the 240-260psi range) and increase the pressure on the IVG and see what happens. Once the reg is sweat-spotted, I just want to have to use the IVG to adjust velocity thereafter.

FYI

Built a much better tester, ran a few games with my NX-1 (with horrendous paint though) and so far I'm at about 260psi + IVG at 3 turns in from flush yielding about 285fps.

For what's it worth, backing out the outer reg screw (the big one) two turns and a half from screwed all the way in gives about 280psi. From there, each quarter turn brings about a 40psi difference, (1/8 of a turn about 20psi, etc.) Of course, YMMV.
