    Houndstooth help

Working on getting a old houndstooth (belive that's what it is.) working for Slims.

I've got air leaking well everywhere.

How do i get the internal aluminum pieces out. All the diagrams show those as a two piece with a oring. I think that oring is dead. Already have the VA and all plugs out. I can rotate the internal tube but can get it to move otherwise.

Done just pound it put from the back to front of the gun?

Once you have the VA removed you’ll have two parts.
the first piece is what the VA screws into (the shorter piece in the diagrams) and the second piece is skinnier and has an -012 oring on it.

I first wiggle the shorter piece loose. Slide it slightly over so you have enough space to basically poke it with something to apply pressure so with your other hand you push something inside the skinnier valve body (I use a small wooden dowel that I sprayed with flex seal spray lol).

    hopefully this makes sense…

      Silver = skinnier

      IIRC
      green goes towards the barrel
Silver goes out towards the RVA

Well after much trying I have come to the conclusion that a previous owner fubared this thing to much. I'm gonna get the internals remade. And improve on what palmers did while at it.

Taking palmers completely down has a high probability of surfaces that will never seal again. Yes there is definitely a better way to make the internals. A cartridge valve with the air transfer tube built in would be 1000% Better than playing the game of loctite on the vert ASA only to find that the valve oring or air transfer tube oring refuses to seat and leaks after everything dries

Thanks to this thread I managed to completely rebuild my new to me houndstooth. a couple helpful things to note/ add to the MCB hive mind:
          • I used Jordans technique of 2 pieces of pine in the bench vice and a little heat to dislodge the VASA - it took maybe 20 seconds to get it off.
          • once the VASA is out, only the green piece in the pic above comes out toward the front of the gun! drop some oil in there and work it back and forth with a pick until it comes out
          • a 5/8" dowel through the front and a gentle tap-tap with a hammer pushes the silver body and and valve out the back ( assuming you took out the valve nut and small allen head set screw out already)
          • putting it back together - there is a right and wrong way to put in the valve retaining nut!!! the flat side should be facing the back of the gun. the side that extends past the threads goes toward the valve otherwise it won't seat!
          • I used blue loctite to put the VASA back in after cleaning the threads
Once I got the valve nut right it fired right up with no leaks. 30 shots on a 12 gram at 290 right off the bat and that barrel! shoots tiny graffiti like lazer darts! A houndstooth has long been on my list of guns to acquire.
