Lapco Grey Ghost, 100 shots per 12 gram?!

This gentleman made the claim that he was getting somewhere near 100 shots per 12 gram. Is that legit or is he crazy? I have never heard of any Nelson getting more than 40 something shots.

A quick expose of the incredible Los Angeles Paintball Company (LAPCO) Grey Ghost stock class pump paintball gun.

Man he would have something to sell if that were true. I have seen extreme statements of 37 shots on a low pressure regulated phantom. Clearly a very warm day.

      PV = nRT

Anything is possible if it's 250F outside.

There used to be a video of Painthappy piecing together a pump from a parts bin and getting like 45 shots from it. Dude has the magic touch.

Actually I believe it was just over 50. It's been my goal to replicate ever sense. Even offered to buy that very gun but by the time I thought to ask he had already deconstructed it and put it back in parts bins.

Ah yes that magical video that got a lot of us hunting for all those parts to recreate the mythical beast!

He’s either really bad at math or he’s lying. I asked him to back it up, let’s see what he has to say

No way not at any usable field speed. I don’t even think it will cycle 100 shots let alone fire 100 paintballs. Drugs are bad MmmmKyyy…

I can get all my phantoms shooting 42+ shots no problem at 280fps and a temp of 65*+. However my play style is slower. I don’t take rapid back to back shots. I play within the limits of what a 12g will do. So I’m almost always giving the 12g time to cook. Lots of people over shoot the 12g and this kills efficiency the fastest.

It needs a 12”-14” barrel. Clean and lightly oiled, good paint, good bore match (I usually go with a .680). Stock silver springs. Quality food grade 12g.

I think the VSC setup with the 12g Vertical helps as well. My phantoms setup back bottle don’t seem to be as efficient. Maybe it’s in my head.

-Or that's "100 shots, each just just barely above 60 FPS", or "100 shots of 50 cal at less than 200 FPS", or "100 shots after I 'supercharged' the hose and valve with a second 12-gram and kept it under 200 FPS"...

Even with a check valve you would need a lot of hose to get 100 shots.

He's full of it. Just before claiming 100 shots per 12ie he mentions it shooting 250.

Yeah he responded to my comment. Even though the gun is worn in and wont get those numbers anymore, he assures me when it was new it got 100. I don't feel very assured.

And his reply for all to see was this. Still not believing it haha.

So, in the 7 years since I posted this video, and probably 11 years since I bought my Ghost from LAPCO, I've rebuilt the valve once, and loosened the tuning quite a bit to compensate for how the springs have compressed with time and use. It's a different marker now, but still amazing. To your point, 11+ year old markers are not going to be as efficient as brand new ones. I doubt it will still get 100 shots, but I assure you that when it was factory fresh, it did, especially with my style of play.

To elaborate, I was not using this in a tournament setting. I was basically one balling people and then not shooting for a while - and only using it on the warmest days. I also had it chronoed under field fps limits just to maintain maximum efficiency.

If you test efficiency by shooting one shot after the other, like what you see in these so called 'efficiency videos' on the interwebz, then yeah, no way anyone's getting 100 shots per 12ie - but the way i was playing, the efficiency was insane.

I bet his diesel Mercedes gets 80MPG too.

Sounds to me like he’s getting 100 shots off the hot air in his head

At 90m/s (260fps) with a 2.9g ball, it's theoretically impossible even if you extract energy perfectly from the gas.

But also... you can't. Because at room temperature the gas still has energy. So you've gotta leave some on the table.

Dropping velocity to 200fps, though, uses only 44% of the energy. So if you can get 50 shots at 280, 100 at 200fps is very possible.

Gotta name those variables in advance.
