    Nelson Valve Slamming

I'm talking about when pumping back a Nelson with force and the hammer opens the valve a bit. Is this much of an issue? I know Phantoms, SL68s and a few others have adjustment to stop this, but it seems like side cocking guns would have this issue.

I haven't had the issue, even with side cocking guns, unless I was really low on air.

I do tend to use lighter main and heavier valve springs so that may, or may not, contribute.

This as Nish alludes to is a spring balance issue. This usually happens with a too stiff main spring and too light valve spring. You can get a marker to function this way but it is not very efficient on air/co2 and it hurts your pump stroke (as well as making odd noises). Lighten up your main by one and see if that works and if still not there stiffen up you valve spring just a little.

Phantom can do this if you adjust the cocking rod to long.
