1991 Sniper 2

Hi,I own a very well used original Sniper 2 from 1991, which I usually play with at least two or three times a year. I love her chunky back block and bolt, but recently with so many great pumps coming out, the old lady is struggling to compete with her heavy pump stroke and my Nova NX1 is ticking my boxes bar one... Wish it had an offset feed.

Would it be Blasphemy to install a modern valve, ditching the Sheridan springs and adding a regulator to lighten the pump stroke on such an original marker? I promise to keep the Thompson barrel now I have wedgits punched into the base. Perhaps a Nova valve in this with a Palmer's regulator for looks?

Retire as a wall hanger or update and play?

No, but if it is a really old one you're not going to be able to drop the pressures too much with our drilling out air passages

I've got several 95-97 Auto-cockers so would assume 400-500 psi would be easily doable. But this is my earliest and owned since about 1998, wanted to keep it stock forever, but modern cockers / snipers feel soooo good. Its more about- when did you last see one with its original Sheridan springs? But as a tool, I know it can perform better.

As ECAP said you may need to open up some air passages and it will most likely require a full lower tube swap. The original hammer and IVG are set up for Sheridan springs which are very heavy. Any low pressure valve will need lighter springing so you'll need not only a hammer, ivg, and valve but also a lighter valve spring in the pre-97 size.

I'd just enjoy it as-is and buy something more modern if you want low pressure.

You'll also need to drill the body for a sear adjusting hole or attempt to find a super early bottom adjustment nelson hammer
