Rouge is typically a final step and also, while not a bad idea on stainless steel it is usually more effective on softer metals.
If you have a bench grinder and you want to do it properly you can buy complete polishing kits that typically have 3 wheels and multiple compounds for polishing. I did this to start polishing tippmanns and brass as a service but soon finding there were a ton of other uses for the polishing setup.I use Tapatalk which does NOT display comments. If you want me to see it, make it a post not a comment.

How bad are the rods they come polished to begin with? I got a kit with 3 different grit it won’t take highs and lows out. But works great making them shine.
are they custom guild rods? Like Hoe Made?Comment

Oh Yeah that’s exactly what I use it for to keep the rods butter smooth. I use it on sear and lots of contact points like hammer lugs. As long as it’s not gouged and abused it will definitely make it shine like new. -
Just a cheap Harbor freight polishing kit, you could even use a drill in a pinch. Not the best thing for it but it will do the job. I got a cheap bench grinder with a buffing wheel.
