Back block project: making new back block/plug for stock install.

Hello MCB,

I know a few of us are looking for back block for rifle/stock build.
Those little bugger are just about impossible to find ... and its nt getting any easier ...

So, time to make our own!

This thread is to record progress and get idea/feedback for the "production" and interest.
This is not a guaranty of production or engagement from anyone, just communal brainstorming.

I did a little cad drawing based on the original Sheridan one, and getting some machining quote out.
The first one came out at $80-$120 depending on the quantities, witch is way way out (for me at least) ...
Waiting on a few more, so will see how they come out.

Then there is the trigger, i might just have them cut and we can bend the trigger ourselves ... got some ideas here to make it fit anything we want.

If those dont pan out, i may try to simplify the design, but they will not be cross compatible with the original ones.
Then either find a small shot willing to do them or make then myself if i have time/tolling ...

Also need to look into 3D printing services (metal and tougher material than my FDM can do) ...


Any thought, recommendation, idea, request ... feel free to share!

I think it would be sweet to make a sand mold of this, and smelt soda cans down, and pour.

Are you worried about the multiple mount holes causing a break point at all?

You'd need a 2 part with a rod to get the center hole for rva ... Not the easiest cast ...

I never done sand casting (always wanted too) and I don't have the time to invest at this time. If anyone has experience/equipment, I'm happy to supply template.

Id just drill and tap that part after the fact.

You drill it from the internal side to puck up the flat.


We can also make ones that are flat backed like the old slide safety style. Even easier.

as netsurfer said, I cast mine, but individually in pewter using 2 part delft clay molds, then drilling/tapping the rva afterwards

How much are we willing to simplify the design for manufacturing?

It likely we will have to get a new trigger plates anyway ...

And the flat back is where im coming to ... I think it would be easier/cheaper to make ... by a lot ...

You can always make em flat. Tap em, then cut the back to accommodate for the people who have to have angled ones.

That is a good way to go at it ... but i dont really have he tooling to do the angle cut myself ...
Might start with a batch of flat back and see where to go from there ...

Let me make a few more prototypes and see how they look. Ill post them here to get feedback.

I would want something as close to original as possible because I need it for a Hurricane conversion.

That woudl be ideal, but im trying to have them at a reasonable price so we may have to have some compromise ... but im sure we will be able to come up with something that works well for everyone.

XEMON - the outward appearance doesn't matter to me, it's more the trigger setup... you had mentioned "custom" triggers, and a Hurc requires a stock (although modified) trigger to actuate the 4way.

got your point, sorry i missed it earlier.

for the trigger, im thinking of getting them pre-cut and we can chop, twist and bend what we need ... il make sure to integrate the tabs for the PPS 3way (can you send/post picture of them somewhere?)

Sheridan Crosman newer style is flat as well. 392, C9, CB9, etc. style rifles. Aka Bluestreak version 2.

Xemon, when you get that far into the project, if needed I can remove my PPS trigger and loan it. I need to rebuild my Phooncane, but have not been in a rush. Mainly shoot non-semi.
