    Sprung Ram Impulse?

Would it be possible to put a spring behind the ram on an Impulse (Bushmaster style) as a means of reducing FSDO?

It's been awhile since I sold my Impulses, but I believe there is room in the ram cartridge behind the ram piston in which to fit a spring.

Sounds like a great way to destroy your ram housing.

My impulse is older than I want to think about, but FSDO has never been an issue if the bolt is manually moved out of whatever position it has sat in for the past year+ before it's shot - either by airing it up moving it into the rear state or manually pushing it forward before airing it up. If you're having FSDO more than once in a day, I think something is wrong.

When was the last time it was serviced? ...o-rings replaced?
      What lubricant are you using?
      What's the build configuration?

I don't own an Impulse, I'm just wondering if this would be possible, as I've heard that Impulses have FSDO issues.

Some did... but I've heard it comes down to solenoid maintenance on a lot with FSDO issues.

And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

99% of the Impulses problems stem from the solenoid and lack of LPR. Woes vanished with my old impulse once I slapped on a tapeworm.

That said, my Bushmaster is extremely reliable, and I know they're sprung. I'm not sure how much that has to do with reliability, but it's something.

To follow up on my anecdotal data point, my setup is decked to the gills with New Designz parts. LPR, valve, HE ram assembly, bolt & pin - all functional parts they made. And whatever the lightened and vented hammer was called - think it was made by a different company.

As far as maintenance, I fully disassemble and service the solenoid every few years. I've had to replace the spool once when one of the o-rings had a (hard to diagnose) leak.

Thanks for the input guys. I might try putting a Bushmaster spring/guide in a basic impulse (with tapeworm at least) and see how that goes. If it's obviously not going to work I'll just hold off.
