    Ion Fault or feature?

Yesterday i was going through the items that I would like to play with or maybe sell at Supergame and I came across this blue ion that I got somewhere. I have zero clue as to the board on it, the eyes, or the bolt at this time, that is a future joker's problem. Right now I know that this marker has no leaks, shots and when you pull the trigger it fires, it even seems like i could get it to chrono in and it would be good. The issue or feature not sure which but when you start to ramp the marker goes into FULL auto mode and does not stop till it is out of paint. It reminds me of a runaway diesel engine it seems to go as fast as a hopper will feed it and goes till it is out of paint.
Is this a fault with the ion board a setting on said board or a new feature for this marker alone? If it is determined a feature and i loan this marker out do I inform anyone using the marker that this will happen or let them find out the thrill of a run away ion? One final question if it is determined a fault anyone know how to fix it or if i should?
Thanks for the help and the input.

It's for a variation of paintball called murder ball, where the idea is to waste as many of your resources as fast as possible. It's sort of the opposite of stock class.

Any chance the denounce is just set wonky? Maybe return to stock settings and see if it takes away machine gun mode.

Could be an intentional setting, though I don't recall ever hearing of such a thing... Could be a board with adjustable debounce set too low, which seems most likely.

In theory, though, there could be a scenario in which a faulty solenoid seal could cause this... It would mean that the seal is fine when first aired up, seal is fine with slow ROF, but at higher ROF something impedes the ability for the armature to seal the vent port completely but provides enough resistance for the bolt to return while the dump chamber fills and pressure climbs to a point that then overcomes the resistance and fires the paintball... That's a narrow band of pressure balance that I haven't heard of anyone experiencing with an Ion. Seen it on a few other platforms, though...so not entirely infeasible.

So I think that I did not give enough information but the debounce makes the most sense and will have to check it out. I will give a list of issues though and I think it could confirm that.

          1. When marker is first aired up it airs fine no leaks no hissing and I seem to remember a cocking of the bolt
          2. When marker shoots slow it shots fine under we shall say 10 bps the marker shoots just fine 10bps is unconfirmed.
I have not tested, bps or fps but it appears to be shooting higher than 300 fps
3 It appears that when the marker goes into ramping it continues to fire none stop and goes as fast as the hopper will feed it, I have been using an old school rotor not sure if that is relevant but...
4 when in run away mode it will fire until the paint in the hopper runs out then stop, i am not hearing any dry fires after
5 each shot appears to be fully charged and shooting higher than 300 fps (I understand that this is hot but want to figure out the other issue first) does not change in runaway or slow shooting
6 the barrel is clean when the shooting is done so either it is not breaking or the paint is cleaning the barrel
          7. When in run away mode no trigger input is given and trigger input does not seem to change anything.

          Facts
          1. This is a back up back up marker so if it does not work or requires money then it is not worth my time.
          2. Tank output 450-500 psi
3 As mentioned before using a dye rotor
          4 fresh 9volt battery
5 Gauge on side to read HPR output shows 200 psi maybe slightly higher.
6 I find this extremely funny and want to loan it out to a couple kids that will be coming if it is game legal,
7 At this point i have only ever used it at a target range and when it goes to supergame i will grab a ref and have them check it before i use it. bellicose, I would appreciate you looking at it
8 while this is a waste of paint it also would slow a fast shooter down since when it goes off they loose all of their paint
          9. If I sell this buyer will be informed about issue and marker will be fixed before it is sold
10 Body is a warrior, breach is not XE stock regulator,
11 Does not appear to be first 1-3 seconds of shooting seems to be at a higher ball count

          Concerns
1 In run away mode there is no stopping it and if runaway bps is reached and someone tries to fix it they could shoot their own team or themselves and likely a lot closer then I want
          2. It is a MASSIVE waste of paint seeing as whenever it goes it will shoot all 100-200 rounds in a hopper
3 Since no input is required for the marker to continue to fire would this be considered cheating
4 If someone is on the other end getting hosed by this it would be very maddening especially if being hit
5 If marker runs away when close to others may over light someone.

          Thing I will check,
          1. Brand of board,
          2. type of bolt
          3 BPS runaway happens
4 FPS during slow shots and runaway
5 PSI of gauge before and during the shots and runaway
6 number of shots before runaway happens

It's definitely not safe to hand off... Any gun that has unexpected behavior is dangerous.

Some things to try if nothing becomes apparent:

            Once in run-away mode:
            1. Hold the gun upside down and wait a few seconds after the last shot. Then allow paint to feed again and see if it resolves it.
            2. Hold the trigger down and see if that resolves it. (I've seen some guns that rattle so much that they keep firing themselves, but I doubt that's happening here)

I thought I had pressed the trigger enough but what you mentioned about gun rattle was right on.
I know I pressed the trigger a couple times and could have sworn that i held it down but i can not be 100% sure and it appears that the rattle was the issue. Previously you could hold the trigger forward a little and it would stop going into run away, now just release the trigger and it stops.

With every single malfunction on every single electro out there, the first step should always be to replace the battery with a fresh one from a good manufacturer. The second step should always be to replace that battery with yet another fresh battery from a good manufacturer.

There are so many strange issues and hickups that for unfathomable reasons pop up every now and then, from a depleted battery, and there WILL be the off chance that the battery you put in as replacement just so happens to be bad as well.

Apart from that, Siress is on point, although it also would be a good idea to try his steps with the eyes turned off. If the gun stops the firing cycle while upside down with the eyes on, but doesn't with the eyes off, you can probably rule out the solenoid, and look at the board as the main culprit. Key word being "probably".

Only reason I didn't mention it is that we've all experienced an Ion with low battery by this point - and they don't do that. It takes powah to actuate the solenoid. Definitely an excellent starting point as a general rule, though.

Very good point, thanks. I have had the batteries turning out to be the fault so many times, and reverting to the twin battery swap as the mandatory first step, that I didn't reflect upon it. So thx for pointing it out.

I think the pressure after the inline reg should read 180 psi. Or that's what I always thought. But also, I've had stock Ion gauges fail, so I rely mainly on velocity, since they go hand in hand with the Ion.

Complete rebuild, even the reg; board reset after it's been identified; adjust the trigger to increase pre & post travel (so it ain't molesting the microswitch); new, name brand, battery. Tame that beast.

I have a spare board I could bring to supergame and you can test to see if that's the problem. If you don't ever figure it what's wrong, you could always make it a mech.

Well I have found the issue and corrected it, the velocity was easy enough to fix the full auto was caused by the trigger being to close to the switch. When the marker would go into full auto there was enough vibration in the marker to cause the trigger to hit the switch again.

The way that it was found is a friend of mine tried it and pushed the trigger forward when it was in run away. I increased the trigger travel a little and it has stopped doing it. I did not get a chance to do any of the tests that i was thinking of doing or record anything about the internals, for anyone curious about that I do apologize.
