I’ve been tuning my early model Sterling, but I can’t get it to shoot above 235 on HPA. I’ve already tried shims, swapping valve and main springs, and changing to a .680 PPS barrel. If I take it too far, either the marker leaks or fails to fire. Short of increasing regulator output pressure, is there anything more I can try? It shoots fine on CO2, but efficiency isn’t the best for 12 grams.

What is your HPA setup's output pressure?

Just got my first sterling so interested to see what it takes to use HPA on one also.Feedback: https://www.mcarterbrown.com/forum/b...ova-s-feedback

Curious - has anyone tried adding volume inside the valve, whether boring it out wider or deeper?
Just need to be careful of the frame screw threads.Feedback

I have not, but I have narrowed down the head of the cup seals.
That allows more air to pass by quickly and raised my FPS substantially on some guns. I imagine the effect would be similar, removing a restriction on air flow. -
Probably also decreased the "piston size" of the cup seal so there's less force from the air pressure holding it shut.

I run a freak bore barrel or PPS 680 brass with wedgits, sideline stab (adjust pressure for velocity adjustment )and 800 psi output ninja regulator with 45/45 tankFeedback link https://www.mcarterbrown.com/forum/b...0’s-feedbackComment

If it runs on CO2 fine what happens if you put 825-850psi to it with higher tank input pressures. Try a Ninja SHP or one of those cheep Air rifle regs off eBay.
What did they do different on the older Sterling then the newer SC STP because my new Sterling shoots great on both 800psi input and 12g I am running a Freak bore barrel.
Does the new valve fit the older markers?Comment

The quickest change I made to get my Sterling shooting around 280, was getting a FS 15/4500 tank which has the reg output at 800 psi. My standard tank with its Infamous reg outputing 450 psi was only getting me to like 230 fps tops. I also had some spare springs that seem to be slightly stiffer that I put in.Last edited by The Last Snood; 12-06-2025, 01:46 PM.Comment

Yeah most 4.5k tanks put out 450psi from the factory today. A lot of the 3k tanks are set to 800psi. The First Strike 4.5k Myth knock offs are 800psi factory I didn’t know that. I wish they were more reliable. They are nice and small but man they are finicky. Sucks they red lock the fill nipples to.Comment
