    Flood Ravage Model 98 Kameleon

Just received a Model 98 Kameleon that spent a few days under water. As you can see, it’s a little muddy, but othwise pretty good condition. As a typical Tippmann I could probably put a few drops of oil in it and air it up without a problem, but I’m going to do a thorough breakdown first.

Here’s the starting point. That paint looks great even with the mud.

Slit it open and honestly not that bad. Ball detent was toast, no surprise. Hammer is problematic though. Can’t get the spring out.

Soak it overnight in white vinegar. It will loosen the rust and dirt. Then hit it with some PB Blast or similar rust breaker if it still is reluctant. Barring that, I'm sure you know these parts are readily available. Yea, that paint looks so nice. Does it have the windage adjustable rear site, or the basic plastic one?

That vinegar worked great! Really helped with the surface rust.

The site is and adjustable plastic one, so you can slide it up or down.

I haven’t replaced any o-rings yet, so still possible. I was worried about silt and debris in the internals though. Everything’s gotten some oil, so after a little cleaning it’ll go back together and be tested.

Cleaned it up and threw on some air. And if farts. Need to replace the o-rings in the valve.

After a full tear down (muddy water in the hammer and valve is bad, m’kay), new o-rings and a minor polish we’re up and running again! Few nicks in the paint but consider it’s a 20 year old marker that spent two days submerged in flood water I’m pretty happy.

I much prefer the design of the Model 98s over the 98 Customs I’ve worked on. Way easier to deal with the springs.

Going to need a nice barrel for this beast through or get a cocker adaptor. What would look good?

The obvious answer should be something just as oustentstious.

Keep it low key. A Lapco Bigshot 8" in 685 is the only way to go.
