    Raider.. will it ever happen?

    Hey guys.

I'm not sure how well known it is, but last year I recall seeing the tippmann raider being prototyped. For those who don't know, its essentially an all mech defender with integrated mech driven hopper.

I personally was pretty stoked to get my hands on one of these. As it seemed like a great way to play mech, and get a low profile hopper. I was also considering bolting two together for a turret mod for a tank.

Release date was supposed to be spring of 2020, but since Tippmann has been crickets on the topic.

Anyone else eagerly waiting to get one of these? Anyone have any insider knowledge of if they will ever make production?

Last tidbit of info I got was, they had some sourcing issue with one of the manufactured parts inside coming out of China, but I feel they should have been able to solve that by now.

Ask trails of doom if you can find him. He shot a workinh prototype on his channel awhile back. Is the electro stryker/assault line discontinued?

They are out and available. Or at least were about a month or so ago. I bought one off Ebay, and may have over paid. I normally check several places for pricing before buying off Ebay. Having not seen them anywhere I bought immediately. I then found them available at ANSGEAR.com and Rockstartactical.com. Both had the black and rental yellow models. Since then I think their are only rental models for sale.

Okay, just rechecked qns, and can confirm they have it. But im still not sure if it exists as the tippmann website has NO mention of it. (Which is where I was basing my questions) I figured the office OEM would be advertising coming soon, or for sale if they had it released.

Knowing ANS' history, I got a feeling they may be listed for sale yet they don't have any in hand.

I'll have to look him up, I got my last info from Mad Frog who also had a prototype in hand. But I believe all prototypes are now back with tippmqnn, and even madfrog didn't have any knowledge to give me aside from they had an issue with an internal part, and manufacturing of some sort.

I'm doing my best to quit Facebook after watching the Netflix doc. " our social delima" so my only hopes of catching TOD is YouTube. Ill see if he's got any knowledge. Thanks!

It has received a lot of backlash for being ugly. I believe their backup plan was to cancel the retail launch and make it a rental product, but field owners didn't want it for the same reason. I don't know if it will ever be released.

Not sure about the general release, but I have one in hand. Have not fired it yet. It may not be the sexiest looking gun, but it is a low profile high capacity gun.

I just looked it up and totally had the "eeeewww, hideous" reaction. What was Tippmann thinking?--this thing makes the D'fender look elegant

... although, it's less than half the cost of a D'fender

i was considering picking one up.....I like any innovation to that takes a hopper off the top of the gun, but still gives you adequate capacity and performance ie. dye dam box rotors, warp feeds, the EMF100 box rotor mod, modded warped halos and rip clips, etc. all pique my interest! Hope they reconsider releasing it soon!

Ugly, and it's an ion essentially... I think. At least the defender is an Axe. Been a while since I looked at a breakdown video, but I remember some nasty clam shell disassembly that stuff triggered my 98c ptsd, and I'm pretty sure it was like an Ion internally.

Why did Tippmann move away from the X7 and phenom style of gun?

It's basically a mech ion with a cyclone feed in the stock.

Tippmann has been on a real ugly role lately. Stryker series (good for vibe/SP1 solenoid parts), Stormer, Cronus, and even managing to make the FT12 even uglier/cheaper.

If Tippmann re-visited the Raider and started over with a new A5 body design , that had a channel over the top rail to deliver paintballs, had standard A5 blowback internals, and traditional Cyclone parts driving the Ratcheting rear shoulder stock loader assembly, would you guys have more interest?

It looks like it would be difficult to aim with that huge fat stock on the back. You'd pretty much have to walk your shots with that design.

there is this, the defender is the same way, but for some reason I still want one.

I saw a Defender for the first time today and was speaking with owner. He did say that the stock gets in the way of aiming.

Probably not... this is the wrong forum to plug me on a hopperless system haha. I'd be interested to see how the stock works up against my mask also. I had a PCS folding stock on my old 98 a long time ago. Played with it about 2 games before I took it off. Like most milsim stuff it looked cool but was useless.

Yep , no doubt the stock would take some adjusting to , just like any Defender owner deals with. A JT proflex would help some ( and i'd guess all members here have at least one proflex , if not several ! :P )

Its a tradeoff design , for the player that is willing to sacrifice some ergonomics for a smaller target profile , more riflelike platform , but most importantly to keep the high ammo capacity (something the mag fed player has to give up )

I would even go so far to say , that if a Raider / Defender design hits the market again , that they forego an onboard tank setup and just commit to full remote only. That would allow them to place the hopper even lower , right where a 68/4500 would normally go , creating the desired mask clearance. Considering any game photos i;ve seen of folks running the Defender, they never have a tank on gun, always running remote lines, i don't think the players that would buy this gun would miss being able to have a tank onboard!

Damn, $300 for a rental quality D'fender? I was curious enough to pick one up but yeesh. My idea was to run a 13 ci for hopperball on days that were heavy on renters (which is like every day lately). But that's a pill I refuse to swallow.
