Improving thread engagement on 98 valves

I try to leave the valves alone on model 98s but i had to remove this one because it needed a new air line

The standard valves only have 1 or 2 good threads on them and theyre easily stripped.20251111_203204.jpg

a factory bought bottoming tap is still slightly tapered and wont get the results we are looking for. Youll need to cut the tapered end off to achieve maximum thread depth

This picture shows how the threads now reach all the way down

the factory screws are a 1/4 inch long. 10-32 threaded. I replace them with 5/16 inch long screws.

use red loctite to reassemble. If you ever have to disassemble again, be sure to remove any old loctite from the bottom of the threaded holes. Any "dead space" between the screw head and the clamshell could lead to inconsistent velocity or valve damage (stripped threads)

Later 98s don't even have those screws. You don't really need them because the air line holds the valve in place once everything is installed.

Never got my hands on a newer model. Glad they fixed that problem coz it was really the only flaw they had
