    A5 Flatline New Vs. Old

I am looking to get a Tippmann A5 flat line barrel. Is there any difference between the Old and the new versions or did they just change the shroud?

I wasn’t sure if the newer version had a tighter bore tolerance since modern paint is undersized.

Other than that are there any other differences I should be aware of between the two versions before purchasing?

    Thanks

Even the "new" ones came out before paint started really getting small

OK makes sense. I am just getting back into Paintball. Approximately when did manufacturers start to undersize paint? I’m assuming all of my barrels are useless.

does anybody have anything else pros and cons wise?

      Thanks for the info

You really dont want your flatline with a tiny bore anyway. The whole premise of the flatline is get the balls spinning in the barrel by riding the one edge. A tight bore would make it more of a blender. The large bore assures rotation is allowed and contact on just the one edge is made.

And to be quite honest. Overboring on an open bolt semi is just fine. You may loose some efficiency, but who cares when shooting a tippmann?

Is there any particular reason you want a flatline? If it's just for the backspin I'd recommend getting an apex instead because it has a great feature where you can turn it off

+1 for Apex. Another benefit is being able to stick on any other gun (assuming you have a compatible barrel).

              Actually…yeah there is a particular reason…

I had an opportunity to buy a Double Trouble. It’s the double Tippmann A5s mounted together with the firestorm crank. Similar to the Special Ops Paintball Hammer. Having adult money got to me haha.

Yes, I know it heavy, impractical, and kinda gimmicky, but it’s so damn cool!!!!

The purpose of the thread is it came with stock barrels with soda bottle tops electrical taped to the ends haha. I know the original came with the old school flatlines, but I wouldn’t be against throwing some Apex barrels on there.

              Thanks

I am open to either option. I actually had an Apex barrel. I must say it doesn’t look bad. I still like the old school look of the flatlines but I admit there are some good benefits of the Apex.

So print a shroud to cover the length of the barrel between the body and the apex tip. Heck drill some holes in it and pack it with cotton and it will really quiet the a5 as an added bonus assuming whatever barrel you are using has porting

Ah, let the guy relive his nostalgia guys. Flatline that shiz up dude.

I have a 98 with the og flatline and an rt somewhere in a bin. Honestly the longer arc of the flatline does make balls fly flatter than an apex can achieve. Apex barrels are also cool, but I tend to spend time messing with my apex rather than just laying a flaw rake of paint at dudes.

Sure the balls are going so slow you can almost catch them but I've gotten a lot of Gs by sending a 5 round burst and the first 3 float by, as a face mask leans into the 4th or 5th.

The dual flatlines do look awesome. I forgot how similar they look to a Lewis gun.

I don’t have a 3D Printer. I’ve been looking into it though. Not a bad idea thanks.

There's plenty of guys here that do, make a want to buy in the 3d printing section, explain what you need and someone will be interested.

You basically need a tube, I imagine the design will be simple enough

I think I will do the old school flatlines. There will be a WTB coming shortly haha. Thanks for everyone’s insights.

Trbo323 You have renewed my interest in a 3D printer. I have a lot of ideas and need to get moving on them.

                            Thanks again
