Am I the only one that don’t feel out gunned anymore. With any setup I just change how I play based on what I shoot. Unless it’s competitive play format I feel like I can use whatever I want regardless of what is on the other side of the field. I actually enjoy playing against the local electro paint hosers with my SC /Single shot gear. Humbles them a bit. I can’t remember the last time I used an electro in open play.

I guess it really depends how familiar you are with your equipment.

It's just you. I used to be fast and smart enough to play SC against electros but with how bad the paint is now and on larger fields I definitely require a semi auto at least to be competitive.

I’m old, fat and far from fast. I don’t always win, or shoot a bunch out. I just never feel out gunned. As long as the equipment works I can hang. I’m not some amazing player I just feel like equipment is more preference then a necessity. I do get access to decent paint so maybe that helps. But to me paint is more an equipment issue. If it’s bad I just get closer. It’s the bounces that sucks if you are only throwing one at a time and it doesn’t break that’s a bummer even at 12.5 it’s a bummer. But then it gives you a chance to battle again. My original post kind of came off as boasting and that was not my intention. I just never understood the feeling out gunned statements. I have felt “Out played” but never “Out gunned”

Open Class Pump suits me the best.
I do like mech-semi markers, but when I play with them I use far more paint, and get taken out faster... because I turn on the revi-hopper and turn off my brain.

When I play pump, I slow down, think, and pay much more attention. I get just as many eliminations, use less paint, and have more fun. And when I get taken out I'm not very annoyed, after all, I was playing pump against mech- and electro-semis.

I did play stock once, in 1990, and it was insane. These poor abused rental markers could hit anything except what you aimed them at. I would like to try stock again one day though.

Mech semi for me. I do love stock class guns and played it exclusively for awhile as a kid because I couldn't afford enough paint to play anything else. But now in my 30's it just makes me miserable trying to keep up with even the rentals.

Amen. Also in my 30s, and it's funny we're saying that like it's super old, but it's starting to feel that way... especially when last weekend I played against a bunch of prom dates out for a pre-prom paintball adventure. These highschool ages bros can move. Me and another with their own gear got run down by this one kid, he was a flash. Huge props to him for make that kind of move his first time ever playing. Used my Emek most the day. Just too many bodies and movement to try and use my Sniper against.

The sniper comes out if there's just small groups of rentals, or if I have other teammates using pumps.

Yeah, I could play pump against 12 year olds. These teenagers/college kids with wheels though are gonna test my revvy.

Stock class is my daily driver, but single shot is my passion. I’ve played single against everything. Do I sometimes wish I had a follow up shot, absolutely. Do I get blasted, without a doubt. But at the end of the day I still had fun. Single shot airball is some of the most fun you can have on a paintball field in my opinion. Changes the whole dynamic. Big moves and bigger smiles.

I’ve always played with electros since selling my autococker in 06, but lately I’m really digging playing mech again with my 170R with mech frame. I think I’d trade the electros for mech semi auto at this point.

I voted mech semi. The group I play with right now has a lot of inexperienced kids and one or two 20+ year players that usually end up on my team, and the other side usually ends up with a family group that has more of a balance in experience. It usually matches up fairly well, but my playstyle mixed with some timid kids on the team ends up with me going 1vs2 or 3 quite regularly. Playing semi lets me even the odds a little bit quicker than pump does. Having said that I still play pump lots, and if I'm not relied on as much to help the team win I don't much care what I'm using.

At this point I'm too fat and slow to do well playing undergunned with stock class against semis and have fun, but there's not really any more fun to be had than a group playing all stock class. I don't really use electros anymore but I'm not opposed to if everybody else is using them. Pretty much the only thing that doesn't interest me is mag fed.

I'm surprised at how many electro users there are on here. I prefer mech semi above everything else and always have. I never liked electronic markers since they first came out, and a large part of me still doesn't. I don't like it when people use ramping in recball with renters, that's just lame. If I ran a field, I wouldn't even allow it unless they capped at 5bps. I had a Etek3 for a bit, and really liked it, but it just felt like cheating using it in recball games. Open class pump is cool, and I've always wanted a pump mag, but I just haven't made the jump yet. I have no interest at all in stockclass and magfed. My favorite way to play is with my limited paint group that runs only pump or mech, mostly vintage. That feels like the purest form of the game to me.

Out of 111 there are 9 that prefer electro over other formats. I think that’s pretty low given the popularity of electro markers I see any given play day. I agree they don’t belong in rec or should be caped low and players need to be kept in check. However they have there place and the tournament side of paintball is massive and driving a large part of the industry.

I voted open class pump but after last weekend I think I'd change to mech semi. I've been having too much fun with my Emek and could use just that gun for the rest of my life probably. I get worn out quicker these days and, sure call it a crutch, but having a smooth shooting marker that I can rip strings with if necessary makes a big difference.

I do love my sniper though, I love building and tuning them. I'll whip it out when there's smaller groups or of I have other teammates rocking pumps.

I'm right there with you. There's not much difference between a mech semi and some modern pumps autotriggering for ROF, it's more so the accuracy during rapid fire. I like having a quick followup shot available if my first one misses or I get a rollout, and shooting on the move is just way simpler with a semi.

With paint being so wildly inconsistent these days, I would not want to rely on a single shot. Having the option to follow up with another shot or burst is helpful.

Out of nostalgia/loyalty to my faithful Automag, I still play mech semi some, usually at the start of the day. But lately most of my playing time has seen an electro in my hands (an old Proto SLG, which is essentially an e-frame mag that uses air pressure in place of a bolt spring). As the day wears on, the lower weight and lighter trigger pull are nice to have. I've never favored an accuracy-by-volume playstyle, but being able to rip out a short, intense burst when the moment calls for it is a great option to have.

Since I play only walk-on rec woodsball, I keep the electro capped around 10bps and always in semi-auto mode only. Ramping on rentals with M98s is just unsporting.

Lately at walk on rec I have been starting the day with mech semi to get my sea legs then switching over to SC. I have noticed that I play much more aggressively with a stock class gun (probably cause I assume I'm going to die so I don't care) and I end up racking up more kills since I'm further down the field. The only times I really feel like I'm at a disadvantage are when I have to try and provide cover fire or when I'm playing special formats or respawn games.

I think any style can be really fun with the right group, but certain styles have a tendency to mesh more easily.

Mechanical and electronic semi. Speedball or woodsball, although I've yet to find the latter around here.
