Bad balls, Hairy, Dimpled Lumpy, Saggy, Schwetty, Salty

Got some paint that didn’t make the cut for whatever reason? Let’s hear about it.

I’ll start it off with this case of redemption pro. Just came in, shipped straight from Valken. Manufacturer’s hype says “.68 caliber paintballs made to the exacting specifications required for ball-on-ball accuracy, consistency and reliability case after case”

Reality however tells a different story

These dimpled wonders are tiny! Most fell closer to .665-.670, but when paint is this small, can you truly claim your product is .68 caliber? Seems like the only thing premium about this $75 case is the “grade A” B.S. they used to describe it.

Anything from GI had been hit/miss for me. The last two cases of Marbs I bought swelled up horrendously in the humidity. I mean, most paint swells somewhat in humidity, but I’ve never seen it swell THAT badly. I literally could not push a ball through the breech of my Phantom without shearing one.

Are those balls that small in all directions? or like .69 one way and .63 the other?

Also, so sad how far marbs have fallen over the years

They are definitely different measurements across the seam, but still under .68

Was shooting GI 3 star last summer, had this little bastard amongst some decent paint. It was hard to capture on camera but it was lumpy as hell!

So I didn't buy this paint, and the story is probably 12 years old at this point. But the field team from field 51 went up to play at flying Dutchman one day and then the next day we have a day at the field and they brought back some paint, and I kid you not every single paintball was a cube.

Not only were all of these cubes cubes but they were horrible yellow with a staining fill, and not surprisingly so, shot like a garbage, and also loved to bounce

They almost accidentally made some SMG60 paint there...

I got this last year. Hopper jammed and after game, found this was cause. Ref said they had quite a few like that as GI was dumping all of the paint that had sat around for months due to lockdowns so quality was bad all around. It was strangely soft too, much more elastic than regular paint.could compress down almost to shape of pancake and didn't break. Click image for larger version

Stay strong, friend. Sadly FOP can be trash, but there’s options outside of that.

The paint we got right after the lockdown was lifted locally was straight trash.

Found flash in it as well, which I've seen from time to time but out of 10 or so boxes I saw opened like 5 had it.

                    Lately it's been fine.

Worst paint I ever saw was back when I first started playing. Our little group would "group buy" two or maybe three cases- mail order- and that would last us a month or more. (Pumps, don'cha know. )

We got in a case of California Magnum, which, for those that don't know, came in camoflage-print cardboard boxes of 200. A case had six boxes. Each box was shrink-wrapped, and there was a plastic bag and zip-tie included in each box, so you could save what you didn't shoot, after opening the box.

Anyway, the last-ever case of Cal Mag we got, just about every single ball had a nipple. I mean there was a raised bump on every ball, like somebody had somehow pushed a BB out from the inside. It wasn't molded in, the 'bump' looked stretched, like I said, like somebody had pushed a small ball out from the inside.

To this day I have no idea how that happened. We theorized moisture, and a "drop" formed where the droplet was- but even freshly-opened boxes showed the dimples at random orientations, including pointing up. Cal Mag's quality was dropping even back then- I suspect a victim of their own success, unable to keep up with rapidly-growing demand. But I can't see even the most lax QC letting those batches through. Or even, as I said, how it happened in the first place.

And, of course, the stuff jammed loaders and stick feeds, and shot worse than if your bore was smeared with Vaseline. Balls would sometimes hook a full 90 degrees after fifty feet or so.

I admit we had a lot of fun for the first game or two- the safest place to be was where someone was aiming- and made a lot of fun when somebody actually got hit ("Holy crap! How did THAT happen?!?") but after the fun wore off, it really kind of sucked. We had no alternatives to that paint, and it was impossible to play with.

... I sure do miss real, live R.P. Scherer stuff. The last Valken I shot was bordering on godawful.

Few years ago the graffiti was bouncing off every thing including goggle lens. Most people would just call out after a few good head bouncers. Good thing it was a stockclass game

My local field banned Infinity just a month or two ago because it was bouncing off wooden bunkers from 30 feet away.

I've played a two day scenario with paint like that. You stop hearing about cheaters playing-on at least.
