So... I watched a few videos on "Less Lethal" balls for paintball guns (most were actually being shot from the Byrna HD "launcher").

It looks to be an "OKAY" paintball pistol. I think it works like a spring magazine fed Splatmaster Rapide that runs on 8g CO2. So kinda interesting.
It was intended for use as a Home Defense device for the less-than-lethal crowd, but I guess it could be used on the paintball field as a sidearm (just be 100% certain you have actual paintballs, not pepper balls or kinetic balls which are steel balls covered in plastic)

But at $325 for just the "Launcher", I wonder if something like a TiPX or Tiberius might be a better choice for both.

Here's nthe thing nobody is keeping tpx/tiberius/ other pistols in stock long. They fly off the shelf for "home defense" use

Kind of a forked topic really...

1. I'm wondering how long it will be before we start to see highly-modified Byrna's in scenario games.

2. In lieu of a pistol for home not-so-lethal domestic defense, I think I would go with something like a mechanical STBB (that I have laying around), or one of my Thunder Cats, with a 10-round tube in the powerfeed. Battery free, (fairly) positive loading, reliable semi auto. Keep it loaded with the bottle attached but turned off. Check the Pressure a few times a week, cycle some reusable rubber balls through it on the weekends just to make sure everything is good to go. Maybe alternate kinetic and chemical balls.

I'm sure we could quibble on the details for a while.

Benefit of something like the Byrna, almost Zero learning curve if. I could definitely explain a Byrna to my girlfriend, "Point, pull the trigger a few times to hopefully buy some time and run". Even the T4E pistol requires you to slap the 12 gram changer to arm it, this you just point and shoot.

You can get 12 shots of the 8gram. Works great for the FSC. I mean for a sidearm (in paintball), that's all I need personally.

It isn't the shot capacity I care about. It's ease of access. I can buy 12g's at the grocery store, if I'm in a pinch. I hate that EVERYTHING needs to be ordered online these days.

Primary market is self defense. The goal of this product is to make it as compact as possible. The average buyer isn't going to have 12gs on hand anyway so far less an issue.

They have 12 gram adapters now as well as the new Byrna SD XL that comes with the adapter and an extended barrel. I'm currently trying one out, gets about 17 good shots on a cartridge before dropping off. Shoots 275-315 out of the box and velocity can be adjusted via a small screw at the back. You can use paintballs in them but make sure it's decent paint, I used Nelson paint with zero issues

Well that sounds promising but I assume there's no easy way to clean these things after a break.
...not that a Tippmann TiPX is that great.
