    A Really (really) absurd idea…

This is fairly tongue-in-cheek, but the more I ponder this train-wreck of an idea, the more I giggle to myself, and the more I hope it gets traction.

Create a “league” of sorts ... the ABSURD PAINTBALL LEAGUE
... around the JT ER2 pump pistol. Yes, it’s kind of dreadful in its unaltered state, but there is a reason this burst into my mind like a tsunami of “why the heck not?”.

    1. It’s a darn cheap little marker. What better place to start than with a darn cheap little marker? One that pretty much anyone can afford and actually works out of the box (at least at a basic level).

    2. It’s humbling as heck. Maybe you can win a few games with your electro-B@$%! Marker, but with a ER2? Time to improve your moves and tactics, heroes.

    3. It’s equalizing. If everyone on the field had to use an ER2, the game would change radically. Be it woods-ball, speed-ball, air-ball, or extreme [insert adjective] ball, using only ER2’s puts everyone on the same level (equipment-wise, anyway).

    4. Fields and Groups could actually include the marker as part of the tourney entry fee. Again… it’s $30, and if everyone starts the day with a brand new (unopened) ER2 equipment is not an issue, and win-or-lose you get a highly modifiable marker out of the deal.

    5. It creates a Noobie-friendly OpFor. No one, and I mean NO ONE is going to get lit up by a jerk with an ER2. Not gonna happen. Getting lit up and ground into the dirt by players with more experience and much more capable markers tends to turn people away from the sport. If a field is running ER2 events, they will likely have several regular players who can pick up their ER2 and play against the noobies. Speaking from my own experience, playing pump against new players with semis is actually a challenge, and a lot of fun.

    6. JT would [poop] themselves if demand for these picked up beyond the Wal-Mart crowd.

Besides, when you give a Paintballer an ER2, you’re giving him a hobby-marker; one that will never be finished! These things are just a jumping off point for taking the art of shade-tree air-smithing to all new levels of absurdity. This platform's infinite mod-ability, of course, means there would be several general classes of ER2 paintball:

    >BOX: unaltered ER2’s straight out of the box
    >>12g
    >>10 rd tube loaders
    >>Limited Paint (30 balls – ‘
cause that’s what comes in the package)

    >STUPID (OPEN PUMP): Tweaked and tricked ER2’s
    >>12g only
    >>Hoppers or tubes
    >>Limited Paint optional

    >STOCK: ER2’s configured for Stock Play - With enough interest, maybe JT will make some ER2S markers again.
    >>Insert your basic Stock-Class rules here
    >>Limited Paint optional

    >INSANE (OPEN PUMP): Seriously tweaked and tricked ER2’s
    >>12g or CA
    >>Hoppers or tubes
    >>Limited paint optional

    Field Leveling
Modified ER2's would have an advantage over BOX ER2's. And it is likely that in such a niche form of Paintball, teams would be uneven. To re-level the playing field, access to paint would be the handicapping mechanism.

The starting Paint Limit would be 50* balls per player on the smallest team.
Players using modified ER2's would be handicapped as follows
    CA: 10 balls*
    Hopper: 10 balls*
    Replacement Barrel: 10 balls*
    etc...

    * These parameters are just SWAG (Scientific Wild @$$ Guess), and will need to be adapted with experience.

Yes, this is utterly absurd, but sometimes ya just have to go completely off the freaking rails and post something absolutely bizarre.

So they technically do have AT, since they're nelson based, but getting my obnoxious semantics out of the way. Great idea

It does Auto-Trigger, it's just kind of a bad AT. It does however, actuate at the very end of the pump cycle, so at least you get a full-power A/T.

It started working after the 3rd time I took it apart. It may just have been stiff. It's still a pretty harsh A/T, but it is getting better. Must just need to wear in a bit.

But if you're handed a unopened package at the beginning of the day, there's not much you'd be able to do then and there. Sure you could be sneaky if you had the time to fiddle with it at home or whatever, but you could always make it a it leaves the lot it's considered open class or whatever kind of thing.

I'd enjoy something like that. I really love stock class games, as there's no rate of fire to hide behind, you have to move and shoot well.

OKAY, but you can only play in the STOCK, MODDED, or OPEN classes ... The Talon can't be used for BOX class, the Talon looks like it has a nicer pump handle, and that just wouldn't be fair.

I just figure more people have talons so it would make sense to include them. Lol

i love the idea of playing paintball with just these pump pistols. Fun times too be had.

We've done this last year or two with SoCal Stock, but with PGP's. No other guns allowed, but we were pretty lax on mods haha, I played most of it with my long barrel which is def cheating. Tons of fun though.

Some games in the middle of this video too:

No joke, did almost this exactly thing like 12 years ago at an indoor pump game in NJ. The shop had refurbed Talons for like $8 a pop or something absurd like that, so a bunch of us bought one and we did a couple of "Talons only" rounds. The rules were a single tube cram-and-jam and a single 12ie. It was delightful chaos. There's a picture around here somewhere hang on...ah! found it. It was January of '07. Lotta MCB'ers in there, tag yo self. I'm back center, grey hoodie, long hair. Still have that hoodie, and it's still stained from the gross white paint we had at this exact game. The long hair is long gone, though.

Edit: Okay quick rundown, guy on the right with the red and blank Vents is "Flaker" - he basically got me into pump/limited paint by showing up to play walkon ball one day with a Sniper. He filled his hopper with a single pod at the start of the day, and at the end of the day poured about a third of it back in, and I was floored. And that's when I started working towards stock class.

Next to me in the "Vintage Paintball" shirt, that's Will aka Superhighquality, y'all remember him? Haven't seen or heard from him in years, hope he's doing alright. Top right, I think that's Joe? Pretty sure he went by "Sexy Chicken" if I recall.

That's Freedom hiding behind the proteus in the middle there, and Dan Kasper on the far left.

And of course like half the MCB mod team up front.

Chuck, that was EJam in Hackinsack. The games then moved down to One Shot in South Toms River, and THEN to All Star in Spotswood. But this one-off really started the NJ indoor pump stuff.

That’s right Ejam I forget about that place. I was big into xball at that time and was traveling down to NJ to play 3x a week back then. Winter and nights we would move indoors. That’s a throw back. Sounds like a blast I miss those nights at the indoors.

Kinda like this idea. I mean I’m way to crippled to play at any kinda competitive level. But dammed if I wouldn’t try anyways.

As an extension to this idea. Could be fun to to
do a rental tournament. Pay for your paint and entry. And every one runs rental 98s and shake and shoots and playes hopper ball only. Only gear of your own is your mask.

                  I love hopper-ball!

I was playing pump and was out of paint, so I was walking off the field when a walk-on gal asked me if I could shoot somebody for her, and handed me her rental 98. I tagged the dude out, and she lead me around the field pointing at people for me to shoot with her rental marker. It was hilarious.

                  "That guy!" pop-pop.
                  "Now that guy!" pop-pop.

I learned that Model 98's are actually pretty nice and that a LOT of players have serious tunnel vision.

OK... How do we create a movement? Any interest in the ATL zone?

My ER2 is already on its way to MODDED class, but I would pay $50 for a day of "Absurd Box" paintball that came with another ER2 as part of the package.

I think it's the plastic that makes them less threatening. JT and Brass Eagle are the same company, they could bring back the Talon. They could even encourage more participation with Pink "Hello Kitty" markers. I'm sure Sanrio would get behind that (well... maybe an Agretsuko marker).
