    Perception is a funny thing

I went back to using only Automags as my primary some years ago. The field owner and I have a long history of debate about the "RT" flavors of them and generally does not allow them for open play days. (He feels the same about Tippy as well). So over the years, many of the mags I have used had "RT" X valves, or RTPro, ect. He would ask me not to use them, regardless of how much I was shooting.

My latest X valve, which I have been using in various setups the past year or two, has the RT on/off the same as the others, but since it doesn't SAY RT on the side, I have yet to be called for it.
I figured be would flag me a couple of months ago when I was using it alongside some guys doing a tournament scrimmage. The ref on field mentions that I was outshooting 10, which as you know is pretty easy with most RT markers.

    Not a word.

So, last time I was there to get some air and just BS some, owner asks to shoot it out back. Does so and comes back "You sneaky some-a....."

I can't imagine an experienced field owner still being this ignorant about 'RT' mags after twenty plus years, especially one in the hands of an experienced player. It would be even dumber if they also have no problem allowing ramping electros in open play with renters. Now with the new super mechs and the performance upgrades for them, the line blurs even further. I'm glad that none of the fields I've played at have made a big deal at all about what kind of mag I'm shooting, as long as I don't act like a dick. The field owners always like seeing someone with a mag actually playing with it. Heck, I get compliments about my RT Classics every time I break one out.

No ramping unless in a scrimmage or a specific "private" game that desires to. Not at all in open play. The way we put it is "shoot at, as being shot at"....the rentals are a seriously aging fleet of indestructible Tippmann 98...so...

It definitely raises questions. If electros are being limited to 10.5 for tournaments, so everyone goes to mechs, but then the mechs get in an arms race and start shooting 15, then suddenly the whole electro vs mech debate gets flipped on its head. The problem with mechs is you can't easily cap them.

I can see tournament organisers eventually saying "this is a low BPS event, no mechs allowed..."

You COULD limit the loader speed to either agitated (Revvy, 11-12 bps) or shake 'n' shoot (6ish bps).

It is happening already. They are not allowing mechs at small events because they can not be capped. Idiots don’t understand it is much harder to sustain that speed with a mech.

Well, see, this is part of why I like magfed - you might be able to spit 20 bps... for one second, thus disadvantaging yourself.

Forcing everyone to use a Primo can work. It's grav, but less irritating.

Semi with 10 round tubes would also work. We used to do that for training in speedball. We'd all be running around with tubes sticking out the feednecks of our egos and DMs. Good times. To take it even further, no tubes, just a pocketful of paintballs and you had to handload the feedneck. It really taught you to conserve, aim, but also to multitask and keep your gun up while reloading. Keeping gun up all the time + shooting offhand + reloading with either hand and (ultimately) shooting while running and reloading - with your off hand - were things we tried to build into our game.

Yeah so nobody really quite nailed that last part.

The last couple of mech tournies we held the Eclipse and "Smart Parts" mechs were not allowed. The first one we had everyone brought a dolled up Eclipse (flavor) and/or a Shocker and were solidly going over 10. We tried a few various ways to limit including saying only certain "vintage" markers, any marker with a shaker, etc. What we found was that when you limit the game in any way the players just go find some other tourney that isn't.
Personally think they should bring 13 or preferrably 15 back.....

It's too bad "shoot what you want, just don't be a dick," isn't easier to enforce.

Limited paint comes to mind. Hopper ball? A pod or two? Open it up to whatever, and let people waste all their paint in under a minute.

I think gravity feed only days are great. We just played walk with a gravity feed only rule and I think it did a nice job of calming the FPS down a bit to allow for more movement and a more newbie-friendly atmosphere. Personally I think we should just stick feed ALL the things, but I understand why others aren't so keen on that notion.

Stick feed all the things, yes!

Magfed is easier to sell, and has almost the same effect. Costs more tho.

If I were running my own social/rental league, I'd either be running 100% emf100s, or emeks with stick feeds.

Just before the rona thing ramped up, we had a pretty good core group at the field in which it didn't matter what marker they had in hand, we all played for fun but still challenging. The issue was finding the correct weekend to get together and to be honest business was near to nothing. A month into rona and the field has been rolling since. The big issue now is finding a challenging game to participate in outside a scrimmage.

If you're struggling finding a challenging you could add more limiters to your equipment yeah?
