UwU those swollen balls

In a realm of doom and gloom and sub .68 caliber paint, I thought I would share my experience from Saturday:

Bought a case of Graffiti, not my usual paint. It was a big eggish so it was boring out anywhere between .680-.684 in the earlier part of the day. Not terrible, but not large by any means.

By the time the sun had risen to it's apex and the humidity started going up the paint had swollen to the point where I could not get my Phantom to shoot under 290fps. Granted I was using a .681 Lapco, but with stock silvers and the TPC all the way out 290fps was the absolute lowest I was able to go.

After experiencing this, I walk back to the staging area and see Shaftski performing the blow-through test on a Boomstick and the paintball. gets. stuck. Now I'm not sure what bore size his boomy is, but if it's one of the older ones it's likely ~.688.

While this is not a clean victory by any means, it was nice to have rollouts not be the biggest issue of the day for once.

That was a stock circa 2k boomy, so .688. Put it on the mini for 2 games and zero rollouts, accuracy could have been better and needed some higher than normal operating pressure to hit 270 (close to 200psi). Shot several hundred rounds that way and not many complaints.

I started out at .681 on the KP3, after about 3-4 games i started to see the telltale high and wide left shots telling me the paint is swelling.

I expected that after seeing those monster dessicant packs inside of each bag of graffiti. The second you break the bag seal that paint is going to absorb humidity like a sponge. Smart thing to do is use humidity control pouches like a Boveda to bring it to 50-55% humidity in the bag which would keep things more consistent when the bag opens. My guess is their paint formula is more likely to grow mold so they have to ship it bone dry.

I remember a big game last year where I bought a half case of Marbs. It ended up drizzling that day, and with sky high humidity. They swelled up so much I couldn't push them all the way through the BREECH of the Phantom I was using that day. Not joking. Dropped in fine, couldn't push them all the way through. I was done by 2:30-3:00, as were a lot of people.

Wow that's pretty nuts. Anyone know the ID of a Phantom breech?

I don't know what the inner geometry of a Phantom breech looks like (didn't have that one for long), but when I'd start pushing it past where it's visible looking down into the feedneck it would get hard to push. Tested it a bit at the chrono station & I had to remove my barrel a couple timed 'cuz I really didn't want to bust a ball just shoving it through.

Interesting, I've never really paid attention to swelling because almost everything I have is .689 or larger. I just buy Graffiti and shoot it. I'm just glad that there still exists a paint that I can shoot through my brass. Mutilating pieces of history with sleeves and drop-ins because the paintball manufacturers have left no other choice would be the worst case scenario, we have to enjoy it while it lasts.

I think this is what I ordered,
I took a skim cut to the OD so it was a little closer to .745"
The ID was beautiful and spot on, so I didn't touch it.
