So apparently someone wrote a whole article on why not to use slingshots in paintball

Back in high school my friend used one before he had enough money for his first paintball gun. He could outrage us all and was a great marksman. You were stoked if he ended on your team, fearful if you played against him....
Sucker was probably letting those go at 450 fps.

The TLDR version is: there's no velocity limiters on slingshots
I mean, they are not wrong and I, for the most part agree. While I think there are a few exceptions if I were a field owner and you as a random walk on came into my field with a slingshot I'd say no. If you're a regular that in familiar with and have rigged up a limiting strap, then quite possibly yes
As is though I feel like a lot of fields are starting to not check velocity's more often than not. They check only after there's a problem but at that point you have already shot the 15 year old at 350fps and turned him off to the sport

Since one of the problems listed is that the ball can break before shooting it, it got me thinking. Is this like a barrel break or a breach break and what kind of squeegee would be best?"but we all have electros and you guys only have pumps, this wont be fair"
(chuckling quietly) "we know"

Even really good wristrockets barley get 280 ish even if you really crank on the thing (overdraw). Average is about 270ish and your more likely to shoot the handle / lead hand then break paint in the hand you are pulling back with. You squeeze in front of the paintball not on it. They are perfectly safe to use. You would need stronger Bands to reach anything higher the 300fps and super long strong arms. Your limited by the length of draw maybe if you doubled up the rubber tubing you could get higher velocity with a short draw. But it’s not a typical sling shot setup, and it’s going to be hard to pull back. Let alone hit anything with it.
It’s a fun challenge to use for a few games. Far from practical or useful really. But I have gotten eliminations with my Barrnett and I have used it at several commercial fields without any issues. Mainly my kids enjoy plinking in the backyard with it more then I do. My little one is actually getting pretty good with it. All we shoot is leftover paint because I have tons of it.

I agree. It really depends on the slingshot. An off-the-shelf Daisy wrist rocket will likely not break 300 FPS. Last time I saw a slingshot at a field was a homemade one and it shot ~165 FPS.
Chrono first, go from there.

We aren’t shooting at each other……..yet 🤔 he’s got his own Sandana and an I4 that fits him pretty good already. I’m planning on introducing the kids to paintball with the fleet of phantoms I have when they get a lil older. Nerf Rival battles will do for now.

Hell no, you're thinking, "gotta shoot that guy before he grabs the flag!"

Full draw is less then 300fps on just about every commercial grade sling shot. Your not getting over 300fps with a paintball without modifying the sling shot. Then you got to be strong enough to pull it back. Try one over a chrono. The paintballs weight and size keeps it well under 300fps even overdrawing it.

Played many times with UVEX goggles against and with slingshot players and never once was worried about mine or someone else safety.

I've never played with one but definitely put some time in in the backyard. No way I was ever getting over 300, no matter how I tried.
If an airowgun struggles to hit 300, I doubt slingshots are an issue.
All this talk of slingshots is making me want an airowgun. Those things had their issues (so fiddly to load rounds between shots, they really should have been "semi" or "shoot as fast as you can keep pulling the string", but hey, whatever. They'd be amazing with FS, chrono'd right. If you could run a scope and DAM mags, you'd look ultra badass.

My friend installed a rivet after pinching the leather pouch closed. The little pocket it caused, held the paintball great. We also tried using a 10 round cap taped onto the leather but it would often get launched after a couple shots.

I played with one way back in the day and I never could get it over 300. I played Sunday with a guy that used one for a game. He wasn't shooting very far with it. I have no issues with anyone else using one. I worry more about the guys coming in to a real field for the first time with their own Tippmann 98's shooting hot than I would anyone with a slingshot.-------------

Getting a typical slingshot over 300 is hard. And that's coming from a dude who is over 6ft with some lanky arms. Even a full pull MAYBE got me 270, and I was more afraid of the bands snapping at that point.
I have certainly used a slingshot near the end of the day when I only had two or three tubes left and there were only a handful of players around. Got a lot of laughs out of using it!
