We’re up to Hall of Shame #3 now and I want to know about disappointing paintball purchases.

What did you excitedly buy only to realize it wasn’t your thing, you just didn’t like, it or it turned out just be a gimmick?

What paintball gear has disappointed you?

Emeks - stock barrel wouldn't thread in, POPS was an extra $$ add-on, 3way wouldn't stop squeaking, offset feedneck bothered me.

Phantom - I don't really like pumps anyways (besides my pump Ion) but Phantoms are not my bag, baby. Gimme a Sniper II any day.

Same experience I had with a Phantom. Just not my cup of tea.

I’ll echo Phantoms. The only thing I really liked about it was the weight. A Trracer with the weight of a Phantom would be pretty sweet.

Once you realize how bad the phantom pump stroke is, you can never go back.

MG100 for me. Big, bulky, not enough room for customization. Just not my cup of tea. I'll hand load FSR or use my Hammer 7's.

PPS Hurricane: Worked right exactly once and either leaked or had shootdown every time after that. Sold it leaking and in need of rebuild. Was fun while it lasted.

Stock brass Sheridans (any type): Never shoot field velocity, huge bore, gas hogs. Great guns to own and hold but without adding a good amount in parts or a PPS tune they're not great.

Old guns in general. They're great fun to own and enjoy as collectors items but between field paint getting small and incredibly brittle and old guns just getting old and worn out, they're not great to actually play with. Autocockers aged well as did 'mags as long as you build one from a ULE body and new parts but Rainmakers, Bushmasters, EM1's, old twist lock 'Mags, Spyder types, and a plethora of others just don't work without constant attention and tuning. Seems there's always something going wrong or the guns are just plain paint blenders on the field. Learned to shoot new guns when I want to be competitive and save the relics for Sundays with renters.

Don't get the hate on Phantoms. Sure, Snipers are better open class guns but I'll take a phantom hands down for stock class. Just lighter and better handling.

Yeah, I hate SC play... too many things to keep track of. I forget to turn my Revvy on half the time, so keeping track of how many shots I have left on a 12 gram or in the feedtube gets away from me quickly.

That’s actually my favorite part of SC the challenge and the art behind it. It’s super rewarding for me. The people that play it are amazing and what keeps me coming back. It’s the gentleman’s way of playing. I wish more people could experience a true Stock Class event.

The WGP Sniper was I think my worst purchase, I bought it off a Friend who had bought a brand new 2k3 vertical feed and decided he just wanted the pneumatics and reg off of it for his other cocker. So I traded a BKO for it with a pump kit.

I regularly played with a Tigershark, and not being able get barrels for it, it being a low prestige marker and me already using a pre-98 autococker as my semi it made a lot of sense.

it was kinda terrible though. None of my hoppers would fit without a bunch of sanding, it had no auto trigger, the cocking rod would back out and fall out during a game,the IVG would back itself out, I had to run vertical co2 since I didn’t have a regulator for it, and it just wasn’t any better than the Tigershark, same consistency, more weight, etc. To this day I am weary of Sheridan action style pumps.

As far as markers, an e mag actually

While I always wanted a mag, I always thought I would really like an e mag. Out of sheer luck I picked up an x valve minimag with hyper frame for $120. Shot it and didn't really like it. With the e frame it just felt kind of sole less. Among other things, put a mech intelli on it and have loved it since

I had an AGD E-mag, I loved it, but I probably spent 80% of the time in mechanical mode and I could have saved alot of money back then just buying an Original RT as people really didn't want them at the time they just wanted electros.

The trracer is a great simple reliable pump, but man those barrels suck and there arent many options. PMI that is. Never had an empire.

My greatest disappointment was my PGP. I was looking for a sidearm and the brass seemed like a good idea. I understood the drawbacks of a stock PGP with no upgrades but that's not the problem. Blew the cup seal after maybe 100 rounds about ten years ago, probably 3-4 months after I got it. Had it repaired at a shop that still had the ability to do so. Then used it a little more and stepped out of the sport for a bit. About a month ago I went to fire it up and sssssss. Yup another seal. Its gonna hit the BST soon.

My greatest disappointment was running a remote line for the first time at a Big Game last fall in Milton , Ontario. The organizer always splits that day up into three 1-hour long games, instead of a continuous all day thing. The first game was a town attack game, and for the fun of it, I wanted to use my old shoebox shocker for the task. That gun is such a gas pig, I wanted to use my 68/4500 tank, instead of my peanut tank. Since the gun is so heavy, I thought I'd try a ninja curly remote line I had, to try to keep the old beast as light as possible. What a mistake! It turned out our attack on the town had to come from a specific tree line, and it was dense thick brush. With that damn remote line, I could barely get through that stuff, and was getting tangled all over the place! At one point, i was so tangled up, I had to disconnect from the remote and and untangle myself to get free! It was so frustrating! I also hated how the remote line felt like it was pulling on my gun when in use. I'll never use a remote line again. I'll find a way to run a smaller tank on gun from now on

During the brief period I ran a remote on my Automag in the mid-90s, I was glad I went with the old steel braid hose. If I got hung up in the brush I'd just give it a hard yank and break free.

The straight line remotes tend to be better. You can even run them through your clothes to keep them controlled, but they do limit shooting form the other hand.

I’m luckier than most in that I’ve never actually had gear or markers ‘let me down’. I’ve never owned anything that was unreliable. My own purchase decisions have let me down. When I was a teen I bought and eventually sold three different Tippmann models, and in retrospect I should have just saved up for one more summer and bought an Automag. That was on me. When I got back into woodsball in the SpecOps era I dumped way too much money into a couple A5’s on mostly useless accessories and ‘upgrades’, only to find that it still didn’t shoot better than a stock Ion. That wasn’t the marker’s fault, they worked fine, that was all on me. I could have spent that money on old school mags that were pretty dirt cheap at the time, and had a better shooting marker than a thousand dollar A5… Live and learn.

Yep, I started out with the Tippmann upgrade trap too. Had probably $300 into a 98 before I bought a bushmaster for $60 used and HOLY SHIT did that thing out perform a Tippmann 98...Still have a lot of tippmanns and I enjoy them, but I have zero "mislim garbage" on them now.

Magfed. I invested way too much $$$ to jump both feet into magfed. Equipped myself and my sister. Only to find it was essentially playing a bulky version of stock class with a bunch of specialized gear. Personally even though I SUCK at it, I’d rather play stock class, It’s lighter less bulky and just a lot of fun.

I had a TiPX, T8.1, T9.1 and a converted A5 with all the associated Mags Mag pouches and vests.

The idea of Magfed was a lot better then actually playing it. I have tried so many times only to be left disappointed. Most of the local Mag fed guys are tools to do that don’t help. I do like FS rounds but not at the cost of game play. I feel like I’m cheating using them.

I feel the same way, although I admit i have never tried it. But when I returned to the game in early 2018, I quickly learned mag fed was now a thing, and it left me scratching my head. In addition to what you said about the extra expenses, that bulky gear is likely attached on the front of you on the vest, which makes for some nice hard edges for paint to break on. And the weight and heat trapped by a plate carrier or full vest just doesn't sound cool....pun intended!

I had an invert mini right after they were released, and it was such a let down. Constantly broke paint, constantly needed repair. I sent mine to Kee Action Sports who fortunately had great customer service at that time, and they were replacing known problem parts with improved ones. But by that point I was over it and just traded it with the improved parts as "upgrades".

I had the same experience with a first gen Mini... the one I have now is rock solid but has benefitted from a couple generations worth of bugs being worked. Those first runs were problematic.

Probably the automag I briefly owned. Dukie got a bin of parts from Fett containing most of the parts I would have wanted when custom building an automag. Dukie built it for me, sorted out a bunch of trigger issues and I think I used it for 1 day before deciding it just wasn't for me. I had a lot of issues with the trigger (probably short stroking) and it just didn't suit me. Returned it to Dukie after that. Not sure what he did with it after that.

Otherwise maybe the Hammer 7, PGP, or autococker projects which I never completed.

Someone touched the sear adjustment rod....I did that once and it took me like 3 months to fix. DO. NOT. ADJUST. Just because it's threaded does not mean it was intended to be adjustable. AGD isn't WGP. It comes from the factory perfect and should not be changed.
