    Some cool old crap

Was digging through my old Minimag box found a couple cool old things. My original chrono ticket from ADG, all my receipts. A couple old things pictured here like a pack of tear offs with one missing. Some parts and the manual from my old 68 carbine etc. fun times.

Who do you market the tear offs to? The exceptionally lazy player? The super cheater? The super lazy cheater?

-It was mostly a tournament thing, from back when even the tourneys were run in "woods" areas. It was sold specifically as an anti-splatter thing. That is, if you're in a bush and taking heavy fire, you can "clean off" the splatter and get back to seeing well enough to keep playing.

Naturally, it turned into a cheat device in about six seconds, allowing a player to completely remove and discard a goggle hit. I heard rumors that most fields basically banned them before anyone actually brought any out.

The overall idea was a motocross thing- when your goggs get muddy, pull one off. There used to be a version that two "cassettes", one on either side of the lens, and pulling a string would avance the clear strip across the front, cleaning a strip of the goggles.

Okay, for motorcross that makes sense, considering JT's early start in life.

Yeah I'm kind of glad they didn't catch on then. The cassette ones still exist in racing but the tear offs are more popular. Much less prone to jamming if you don't have gears and what not

The package only mentions dirt dust and mud. The ad copy in APG depicted a woods baller with a lens full of spray.
At any rate you can’t get down on the product for people’s poor behavior. Cheaters suck but sadly aren’t/ weren’t ostracized enough ever and cheating was tolerated and even encouraged at high levels of play.

as a product I think for me the idea if not having to take some field’s dirty paper towels and windex to my lens to clean a gog shot( in the staging area) was appealing. That said I think I only ever used one and determined they were a pain in the ass.
