Let's fix a agd 6-pak (build thread)

Ok so, made a deal with another member here, he got me a vanguard demon for my father in law and I'm return I picked up a agd 6 pak that was missing a few pieces. But I felt it was nothing I can't handle fabricating so I took on the project. Let's see what happens.

Ok, here is what I'm working with. My 6 pak on the left is complete and I'm using it as a template for the missing pieces.




I need to find/fabricate the bottom plate, spring, spring follower and stock.

The spring is pretty easy, an m-14 magazine spring is pretty close. A few cuts and bends to one end only gets it working. That's actually what I have in my 6 pak right now after the original one was losing some tension.










So I ordered some stainless steel to fabricate the follower and bottom plate from, stainless because I'm not sure what the original finish is and I'm concerned that if I use normal steel the follower may get some rust over time and start sticking in it's movement.

So I'm starting with the bottom plate since it's shape is fairly simple. I may need to put a screw or second piece inside just to keep the spring in place but I'm not too concerned about that.






A few Dremel cuts (hack saw didn't... Hack it)and a quick de-bur/polish later I have the base piece. Test fit just to make sure it will fit inside and here is where I'm currently at more later

Ok, a few bends and the bottom plate is into shape. I really underestimated how hard this stuff was going to be to drill through. I got 2 holes in with a smaller size than I needed, then discovered one was not in the right spot. Luckily the bottom plate has 3 screws so I just flipped it around. Then discovered my nice large drill bit set is not designed to go through steel. Thankfully I had a small DeWalt kit that could and one of the bits was close enough that I could make it work. Threaded the holes and the bottom plate is done


Next up is the follower. It's a little more complicated of a shape but no holes needed for anything beyond weight reduction. It went somewhat smooth. My first attempt it was a little too long so it wouldn't fit in the magazine. Had to take one bend back out and move it.

Ok, so lots of little things happened today.

First up, one little mod I did to my 6 pak that I'm a doing to this one as well. One of the more common ways that the 6 pak will jam up on you the nose of the 12g gets caught up in the valve in front, it's a little hard to see but you can round the lip of the valve and it really helps out. You have to make sure and not go to far so the c clip or ring (I think the c clip is not factory, I'm going to make sure the head of the c clip is not in the way) still has a way to clip in to place









Also, pro tip! Want to replace the check valve seal? Turns out a dye hyper 2 regulator seat fits almost perfectly in the spring of the check valve assembly. Will it work,? TBD. It was a little difficult to get into the spring but once it's in it's being held in there really good




Next up is the spring retainers, both top and bottom. Little cutting, little jb weld and they are currently curing

A few things that I didn't take photos of, there was a lot of massaging and little bends to get the follower to travel smooth

Ok so today was mainly fit and finish work. Some massaging of the follower to get it to travel smoother, I wouldn't say it feeds 100% but I'm also using empty 12ies and the back pressure from fulls helps it feed so I'm going to leave it where it is and see if it breaks in. I can always teeek it at the field










Yes the stock looks jankey, working with what I had on hand. It is an original stock that's had someone chew on it. I made repairs to get it at least functional. The plan is to replace it in the future. The padding is weather stripping held on by flex tape. It's actually pretty comfortable.







Also, my hyper regulator seat as a check valve.... Massive fail. Didn't work at all. I have these detents from..... Something that seem to work better. Round side pointing back, flat side towards the marker. They don't work perfect but do ok for the half second the 12g is out.

Ave if anyone is wondering what's up with the stock on mine, it's actually from a micro ca ii that came to me in the same lot. I had plans to restore that one as well but it was just missing too many parts. Really there was only 3 parts on it total, the stock, the body and the valve body (no internals) so I figured I'd put some flats on the round stock and drill it for the screws. It worked really well.

Since I already had this post here I figured I'd use it for a space to say goodbye to a dear friend who passed away recently. As I was finishing this project actually. He has helped me with many paintball projects, thank you for all your help through the years. you will be missed but never forgotten

I am glad you are doing this. I have seen this 6-Pak up on boards for sale before and it seemed to change hands without being restored. I like where you have gotten so far good job.

I have thought about restoring this myself and one thing I was thinking about doing is making a follower out of HDPE. One of the biggest problems with 6-Paks, other then springs wearing out or breaking, is the follower hanging up while cycling; especially when you get to the last 2-3 cartridges. That is why I always kept a CO2 cartridge in my pump hand so every time I cycled I could top of the magazine.

I've always thought the only way I'd play stock was with one of these. Unfortunately I've always been late to the sale when they're posted. Love what your doing so far!

Funny thing is that’s ware most draw the line between Open and Stock. “Powered buy a single 12g is pretty standerd”. Lots of different variations on what is considered stock class but one 12g is pretty universal. These things are still super cool and a unique piece of paintball history.

SoCal stock is a lil more lax so a lot of there games let you use them even bottles. You should check out there games they look like a blast.

The way I've always heard it is

Stock class-10 rd feed and 12g carts only
Modified stock class- either, CA or standard hopper but not both
Open-anything goes as long as it's still a pump

So technically, with this on my sniper with a halo tsa it's modified stock

My understanding is there is no ruling about HOW each 12g is fed into the marker as long as it's only one at a time. Players are always looking for the fastest possible change, that's why stuff like the quick thread bucket changers exist. the 6 pak is just the pinnacle of that pursuit

Not that I care how it's classified, I don't play any kind of competitive
