My base/protective layer is pretty much always the same:
    • Exalt FreeFlex knee pads
    • DYE slide shorts
    • Proto performance top padded sleeveless undershirt. Appears to be circa 2009 vintage, but I bought it new old stock from someone clearing out a storage unit of inventory from a paintball store that closed in like 2010.
    • Exalt neck protector
    • Seibertron SOLAG half finger "tactical" gloves. Got these off Amazon for less than $20 and absolutely love the things.
    • Valken headband in multicam that was $9.99. I just don't understand these kids running around in overpriced headbands.
    • Mask is always an old style Spectra (Proshield) with the horizontal vents, either solid black, solid olive, or black with olive ears.

My primary outfit these days, in addition to the above, consists of:
    • British Army surplus UBACS (under body armor combat shirt). These are awesome for paintball. The torso is a synthetic fabric in a wicking, breatheable weave, while the arms and shoulders are a tough cotton/poly canvas with interior removable neoprene panels from the elbows to the wrists (and on top of the shoulder). That's why I don't have elbow pads: they're built into my shirt sleeves. When it is really hot I can just pull the whole thing off between games. I have one in the desert DPM camo pattern and another in MTP (multi terrain pattern, the British derivative of Multicam). The upper sleeves have pockets and loop panels for patches. I made myself some recognition flashes by slapping velcro on strips of red and blue EVA foam rubber, in an effort to cut down on friendly fire by trigger happy rentals. Recently found some cat eye red patches (pictured below), but haven't found a blue version yet.
    • British surplus combat pants in camo matching the UBACS. My MTP ones, which I wear the most, are some kind of synthetic blend that is tough but fairly breathable. The front slash pockets have hook and loop closures, which is a little weird but useful. The legs have big hook and loop slits on the sides, about 12" up from the cuffs, so they are worn over the boots. The cargo pockets are flat front, with gussets at the edges.
    • Merrell Moab tactical 8" waterproof boots in tan, or what had been tan before the dirt stains set in.
    Backup/former outfit:
    • British surplus combat shirt in the classic woodland DPM pattern. Like most Cold War era NATO member patterns, this is a rather dark woodland pattern meant for the temperate forests of north/central Europe. It looks cool (to my eye at least), but isn't especially suited to the sub-tropical Gulf Coast. I like that there's a hidden zipper I can use instead of buttoning.
    • Solid black BDU pants I played in back in the 90s. I don't know which contractor made these things, but they didn't skimp on materials or workmanship.
    • Hi-Tec Magnum tactical boots. Another relic of my 90s outlaw ball days. Now held together with generous amounts of GearAid silicone adhesive, these are relegated to the closet on ready reserve status.
    • Merrell Moab 2 low top hiking/trail running shoes. These are my normal weekend casual shoes. I occasionally play paintball in them if the weather has been very dry and I don't feel like fooling with my boots. Since my home field sits in a very low lying floodplain close to a river, if there has been any rain to speak of in the preceding week I'll go with my waterproof boots instead. But when I can get away with wearing the hiking shoes, they're much more comfortable to crouch and kneel in.
Come to think of it, I probably need to branch out away from the HM armed forces surplus. I'm actually not into milsim at all and think it is rather silly. Guess I better acquire some elbow/forearm pads if I want to get away from the UBACS. You can see the outlines of the neoprene pads in the pic below. I stitched some darts into the lower sleeves to make them slimmer and more form fitting. Click image for larger version Name:	20220402 (1).jpg Views:	0 Size:	77.7 KB ID:	262119

The Automag: Not as clumsy or random as an electro. An elegant marker for a more civilised age.

Amazing, isn't it? You'd never know it looking at Reddit or YouTube though.

    Outfits...like costumes?
I've played in a lot of scenario games, often dressing for the part to the point of sewing the garments myself. I've played as Santa; I've played as the grinch. I've dressed as a King, a Wizard and a Knight, even as a "hound from hell" that turned into a pink poodle. (that's a story) At the MXS LOTR games I was dressed as Tom Bombadil in one game, and Treebeard in another (wearing stilts no less). The outfits I've worn are numerous.
I earned the moniker "Pyrate" for a reason. I was doing historical enactments with a group of pirates in New England. After one event, I went to the field without changing. It was such a hit I just rolled with it and made it a thing.
As far as the average walk-on game I almost always use Army Surplus pants ~ cheap, durable, comfortable. Never got into those pajamas "made" for paintball.
Upper body may be hunters camo, Treebark, RealTree, or just a T-shirt. I prefer tigerstripe.

If I'm not dressing for a role, it doesn't much matter to me. My play clothes overlap my work clothes. I could play paintball dressed in a tux if one broke out at a wedding.

Oh above where I said BDU with patches, this is what I meant

I admit, the only Taso stuff I own is an Automag sight rail and a Lonestar bottomline adapter, but I had the patch so I figure why not?

Edit: Also, when I was new everyone did this, all sorts of interesting patches, what happened?

I didn't even notice the name tape previously. Please tell me it is a reference to Jayne Cobb's beloved gun from Firefly.

Nope it’s actually my first name, I think it is just way easier for people to call me by my name rather than say “Hey You” lol and it works too, as most people at the field seem to know my name once I wore that but it was like before they were afraid to ask it or something

I did something similar a few months ago and stenciled my first name on the back of my shirt. Since I play walk-on ball at a field with a high proportion of renters to regulars, I figured it would be helpful for teammates to be able get my attention on the field. Also seems to help with other regulars who might not remember my name but have seen me there enough times that it would probably feel awkward for them to ask.

Ever thought about adding a name tape with your MCB or Reddit username? Or would you want to avoid having both your real name and Reddit username visible to randos at the field? I used to try to keep what I posted to Reddit vague enough to avoid connecting my username to my actual identity, but I've gotten pretty lax about it by now. I don't mind people I meet IRL knowing my Reddit username, but I am still reticent to have my actual identity ascertainable from my online posts.

I have about 5 pairs of pants, and a handful of jerseys, but Ill only wear my new morel support jersey, and I change pants depending on the day.

Spec opS UL pants for hot days in the woods.
classic JT teams for rec ball
Pe pants for built in protection
      ect ect.

i qlso have a few different pieces of head gear I swap out, but its not really about fashion.

When I was on a scenario team I wore flashy stuff for the laughs, but now that Im a 1 man team, Im all about sneaky sneaky camo. I like wearing unmatched camo as well. Because though it doesnt look cool, it breaks you up further. I was playing 2 weeks ago and people said they would see me run to a tree, then bam they lost sight of me. Thats exactly what I want. Haha.
