On The Fence - Convert to Sniper, Leave as Mech

I picked up an ANS X5 recently. Really wanted to see how the 90 degree frame felt. I’ve got it largely up and running, although it’s not hitting proper velocity. Will rebuild the HPR and maybe change the spring.

These have a few neat options for cockers that make them a little more unique. Dual ball detents and being pre-drilled for breakbeam eyes being the most significant. The body has been milled down quite a bit as well, supposedly only weighing 8 ounces. The front pneumatics are huge by modern standards, with a bulky jackhammer undermining the light body. Seems to be really counter the entire goal of this marker

Here is where I am on the fence. It’s a fully operational and fairly nice shooting cocker. Very little work is needed to fix it up. But, this would also make a real nice budget S6-style pump build to take advantage of the milling and lightness.

So here I sit, one foot dangling one other side and a healthy collection of mech cockers and snipers already in my closet.

    Give me a push!

I say leave it mech. Do you want to look at this every day?

In fairness, it’s not the prettiest mech. I’d put a nicer pump kit on it as well.

Perhaps the best thing you can do is cover it with a paper bag. Just poke a hole for the barrel and hopper.

I’m a pump guy. I say Pump it keep the pneumatics but put a quality pump kit on it or don’t do it at all. CCM with there spring kit would be my first choice. Slice or I bet that WGP vendetta style one (if you can find one of those) would look good on that.

Definitely agree about the quality pump kit. Easiest for me to get is an ID Genesis kit. I hate the pump handle on the drift. I have an older CCM kit kicking around as well.

Yeah I’m not the biggest fan of the ID handles. The rest of the ID kit is super nice tho. The handle leaves a lot to be desired. To me it just doesn’t flow right. If you have an old CCM kit use that have ODM make you a cool clear gray handle to match. Single CCM fitting off that CP Reg would be a nice touch to.

      Cut it...

      Part it....

What ever it's just an ANS cocker

I didn’t think they were that bad. I think ANS becoming a garbage company later on is what made them less popular today. It’s like a knock off Bonebreak. They weren’t made bad like the lightning. Just a cheaper less polished version of what everyone really wanted. ANS use to make quality aftermarket parts. Now they are just dirtbags that rip you off.

Isn’t the coveted BPS Twister just a machined ANS body. I was surprised to see the internals used on the last one I tuned. Wouldn’t me my first choice.

The GX series were made by LAPCO . The GX5s were designed by LAPCO ,(I have the LAPCO prototypes) but made in Asia...The Twisters in question were made from GX3 & 4 bodies, but only the last Gen non ID,,

I know that LPR is enormous, but it perfectly matches the body and that is such a pretty color. I say keep it mech. I wonder if you could get those stickers off without damaging the anno.

If you want a pump project, you can always find a Trilogy Sport or something and go nuts with it. Break out the band saw and midblock it, whatever.

Already got a few stickers off without issue. Those CP ones are a little tougher, but haven't given it much effort yet.

I'm biased against pumps, so I say leave it as-is.

First off, the ANS X5 with a 90 frame is perfect for mixing it up as close as possible for an autococker with a backblock.

Chop the feedneck down, and set the ASA with tank up so that the beavertail kisses your mask while prone.

Dont forget that the front block has a scallop for a high thumb grip

Sorry gents, bit off on the photos.

I love these things after a few mods, they fit my style perfect. Get after it buddy, pump or mech.
poke an ass with a barrel tip when you tell them surrender,
they dont ask about the feed mechanism.

And get rid of the gauge under the frontblock when you are all set up, it messes up your grip.

First of all: Flecktarn? You truly are a man of taste.

Second, pug barrels on a Cocker are sweet. I really like my Tanto barrel if I'm not playing airball.
