    2006 Black Magic Cerakoted

    Hey,

I just got my 06 Black Magic back from the Cerakote shop (https://www.barefootcustomcoatings.com/). I asked for a purple chameleon like coating. He put the Mystique FX coat on it, and it came out better than I expected! I tis a bright metallic purple in the sunlight and a deep dark purple in the shade. Pictures just don't do it justice!

These pictures were taken back to back, one in sunlight the next in the shade.

Also, for those who were wondering if Cerakote is strong enough for paintball, he coated a Revy for me, and I torture tested it. I shot it several hundred times and even at point blank range. I have videos and will make a post when I get the time to edit the video a bit. Short answer is, yes it holds up!

How much does it cost roughly? I have a old beat up STO body that this is a perfect candidate for.

shooter311 That seems reasonable. Much cheaper than an equivalent anodizing job.

Yes, way more reasonable, and the best part was it would have been 1 week turn around, but he added the hopper so it was about a week and a half.

Damn you and I must be twins, I am about to get my body back with GunCandy "Mongoose" on it. Very similar purple chameleon colors!

(Pic quality is terrible as these are screencaps from a vid he sent me)

That is awesome. I got my minimag body coated in guncandy stingray, it was a bit more blue, but equally awesome!

I got pics from the shop as well and I was a bit bummed since it looked almost black, but once I had it in hand it was a way different story.

Do they do the insides and threads as well? If so, any problems with tolerances?

Yes, they spray inside and out, and no tolerance issues at all. It is pretty amazing.

Dammit it, now you have me researching local Cerakate for my Spec Ops stock that needs repainting…. Does things need to be primed and prepped to cover imperfections?

There’s some local Canadian places that do this for firearms, so my mag shouldn’t be too tough for them.

Would this be a good candidate for raw parts since at least Barefoot does the internal surfaces?

You should always anodize parts, it'll seal the part and prevent issues later down the road. Do a cheap black ano and then cerakote it.

I don't know for sure, but I thought he strips everything down and then coats it anyway.

I know he does raw gun parts and I have never heard of a problem.

He did some raw trigger frames for me about a year ago, prob way too soon to see if there is an issue.

Yeah he did an awesome battle worn american flag coating on a pistol of some sort. I was thinking about doing that on this marker, but then he was able to mimic the kapp lava coating. So we were going to do this purple with the lava on the flames. Then I blew the transmission in my truck and got a $6k mechanic bill. So I called him in a sweat and asked if we could scale it back. I know I'll regret that forever, but there will be more projects in the future!

Well, I got in contact with Graham over at Barefoot Customs. He didn't think it would be an issue at all with raw parts, and didn't hesitate at all when I mentioned full coverage, internal and external. Going to send in the square body Sanchez Machine pump kit I got from Woouulf, planning on a base coat of Crushed Orchid with a splash/swirl of Stormtrooper White over the top. Should be interesting!

As long as you can get all the way around a part. I would not do Autococker body’s as the internal holes would be impossible to spray. So your hammer lug valve springs would ride on raw aluminum and pit. Anodized parts harden aluminum. With Cherokote your skipping that process. While the surface finish is durable is not Harding the aluminum for better wear characteristics. I personally would not ever purchase or have a raw body done. But one that needs a good refinish or I wanted a color change. In a hart beat it’s a great inexpensive option. Looks fantastic and is every bit as durable as Ano if not more.

Pump kit is easy to get all the way around on. Should not have any issues. However it’s a spray on product anything you see will get coated nicely anything you can’t spray directly will be left raw on a raw piece.

This stuff is ridiculously hard to photograph. First pic is slightly edited to show how it pops. But for anyone looking for some sparkle, this is GunCandy Mongoose. Its a pigment additive that anyone should be able to add to a clear coat.

This would probably make a great option when patching eye holes. You wouldn’t get the discoloration at the patch location like you often do with Ano.
