    Stabilizer rebuild trick

So I got a minty Compact 2000 with a Stab... basically my high school setup! I aired it up and... it spat black goo all over me.

    Time to rebuild the stab.

I knew they put red all over the joint, so I torched it... no dice. Can't get the halves apart with a strap wrench. Put aluminum tape on the bottom, but it in the mini lathe chuck, but the tape tore through before the joint broke loose. So now it has a small idiot mark. Crap.

    Time to get creative.

I slit a piece of 3/4" PVC conduit, wedged it open, and slid it over the end. Bit some Vise Grips into the plastic. Finally, some purchase!

Hopefully this saves the next guy's ano!

Was it leaking between the reg halves?
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

The buna rings were both toast.
The urethane between the halves was fine, but the piston and the seat carrier rings were both liquid (or worse).

... and now that you ask, I realize I could have accessed the seat carrier with a long socket from the bottom. Oh well.

I have to admit I like nice smooth regs just from an aesthetic point of view, but as an airsmith...? Gimme some proper wrench flats.

And stop using red LocTite, you morons!!!

If you want to be secure, 243 is far better than 271. The primer cures it quickly, but it doesn't take a torch to remove!

Should you be using the blue or green loctite? Going to be getting a reg and sending it for ano. After I want to use the right one.

I hear that is why AKA regs are a pain to take apart, use the red loctite.

I really like blue, plus a primer (243). It sets more quickly and reliably, but still loosens with hand tools at room temp.

flyweightnate can you expand on the primer 243. Is that mix into the blue or do put that on the threads before the blue.

It's a premix of glue and primer. Instead of buying 242 (blue) and a primer (7649), you just buy 243 (at a real store, like Grainger or Amazon, instead of Home Depot) and it'll work much better on stainless, anodized aluminum, zinc, and other passive metals.
    Working...
