Barefoot Cerakote Put Magic on my Micromag!!!

So I am a huge fan of Cerakote on paintball products, and I have yet to see anyone do it better than Barefoot Custom Coating. I have so much faith in them, I dropped off my Micro and told them they can do whatever they want with it. They knew I loved the two color shift markers they have done for me in the past. So this time they created their own color shift that is so extreme I feel like I am on acid when I am looking at it. no one does it better than them.

Also, he cleared up a ton of misconceptions. I always heard that Cerakote with not flex and is not good for paintball hits. So he coated a hopper and I shot it tons of times and it never cracked. He said that was nothing, and to really challenge him. So I brought in a bike grip he coated that too, and the soft rubber sleeve has no problems being rolled in a ball and not cracking!

was there any parts or areas that needed to be masked so coating did not get on there.

it is so hard to catch on camera, and usually outside is the best, but it is a rainy mess right now...Next sunny day, I will for sure get some pics and video! This color shift is wild, I have never seen anythign color shift this drastic without it being electronic.

It is a Ceramic Coating developed for industrial and military applications for high strength and wear characteristics. Used a lot on Firearms because of its strong adherence, low to no effect on tolerances and ability to handle the typical abuse firearms receive during regular use. In some cases can be sprayed on with the intent of reducing wear and friction on moving parts. One of my Detonics Combat Masters has the sliding surfaces coated to reduce friction without marring the natural stainless steel appearance externally. Nominal thickness you shoot for with Cerakote is ~1 mil or 0.001 inches.

I have been a fan of Cerakote for a long time and used it on a few Firearms. It is a great way to add protection and color to any non-anodize-able parts like a Classic Automag's body. Two of my upcoming mag builds will use Cerakote and a Nelson Build as well.

That is one of the bodies I plan on getting Cerakoted is a MinMag body for my Pump I am working on. I hated to Cerakote the body I sent you so I got another for this project and traded the polished one to you.

Yeah I plan on having couple markers done in cerakote. My understanding is that there is two ways for cerakote to be done.
one it is applied it and let air dry. Second it is applied and then it is baked. Baking it adds to the durability. Not sure on the temperature of the baking if its low enough that things like masks, hoppers or bike grip are baked or air dry.

Barefoot did two kinds of methods for this. For the expansion chamber Forest at PTP said it couldn't be taken apart and there is an oring inside for the swivel base. So Barefoot took great care to not bake that. I added the bike grip in case the expansion chamber got ruined. So he said masks pods whatever I wanted would work.

So Cerakote is way cheaper than anodizing if it is kept simple. The price jumps generally $50 for each additional color on the marker. However, if you do a ton of parts one color it is cheap per part.

I know I have a ton of odd old beat up parts and stuff I would like simply gloss black or something. Would people be interested in a co-op setup where we all get a collection of our parts we want gloss black and have them coat it, and we just split the cost? That would save us a ton. Since they are in my home town I would be will to have everyone mail the parts to me and then I would mail them back out.

Or we could do a MCB group and all send in markers (From Talons to CCMS) and have them all done in one special color pattern or something. It would prob be super cheap compared to us sending indivuidual markers in. He can laser engrave the MCB logo or something on them too.

My Sanchez pump I had done was $200. That was many parts, but only two colors (base plus splatter/splash).

I would love either a gloss black or MCB edition group order. I've got an SLG that deserves a fresh look, as well as a couple of cheap PsychoBallistics bodies that would benefit.

This was a bit of a weird transaction, I didn't pay cash. However, I had a Black Magic pump done recently which was a color shift (color shift is two colors due to a base and the color shift going on over that) and it was $200 even.

Barefoot figured out a way to make the chameleon effect even more pronounced too. That is what they did on this micromag. It honestly looks like two completely different markers from one second to the next.

That chameleon green yellow is part of the gun candy which is also in this micro. I think that is the green yellow you get before it transitions into the purple

shooter311 can you double check on the finish for these. Last time I check on them. Most color are done in dust. They can put a sheen but they are more like satin finish at best.

Last time I checked on cerakote. A true gloss finish is not available. Color applied it is dust. If I remember correctly after it is baked they can add a coat that will at most give it a satin finish.

My bad, I kinda forgot, but I messaged Barefoot late sunday night and they got back to me in 5 minutes.This is their reply:

Satin Mostly - I can clear coat over top to get a shine though. so yes, I can do gloss. Issue is when the clear gets "wear" on it, it starts to get cloudy. Not like anodizing, where it just rubs off, but everything stays shiny.

I think their biggest disservice they do for themselves is they only post a small percentage of what they do. I got the very obvious vibe that a lot of what they do they cannot publicly talk about (I'm 99.9% sure they Cerakote for SpaceX and the Government) because when I go into the shop, the owner will show me something they did and it is mind blowing and it never makes it on their social media or anything.

When I was in Monday, he showed me a rifle that looked like it had a liquified American flag oozing down it. It was super awesome. I am not sure if it is just me but it takes a couple minutes for all the pics to load.

I Have had a couple autocockers done with Cerakote, both have had the finish hold up pretty good. I built these cockers to play with regularly, not to be shelf queens and to me the Cerakote holds up much better than anodizing to regular Recball abuse. If you use a good cerakoter, I think you’d be hard pressed to go back to anodizing unless you really like the gloss finish.

Haven’t noticed any issues in the years after I had it done, then again the feed neck is not a something I really ever take off. The barrel threading seems to be fine though, no performance issues I’ve seen thus far.
