Back in the day I used to use Pro Team barrel treatment. Loved that stuff but it’s no longer produced. Short of someone having a bottle to sell me does anyone use any car wax products for their barrels?

What is this, is someone speaking of the old school magic? This is something that I know nothing about. What is it to wax a barrel, how may I know more? I would imagine that today it is using rain x and or a car wax to polish the inside of a barrel.Comment

I was trying to find the test from a5og via the way back machine, but cant.
They did a fairly scientific test with multiple
barrels, non treated, and treated with rain x on the tippmann forums years ago. All over a chrono, and even shooting a target to validate consistency. If I recall, rain-xing every barrel tested had pretty promising results. I think the theory was theory had to do with mitigating drag on the ball by making the barrel surface "slicker"

I switched to Nu-Polish for barrel waxing a while ago because it's a polish not a wax.
You apply a healthy glob to a clean cloth squeegee then give your barrel the old in and out.
After a couple minutes I take another clean squeegee and wipe out the excess.
Nu-Polish is a once a year wax product for cars so I estimate it lasts 10 years for barrels.

If Tom Kaye's paint/barrel research holds true paintballs touch two points of a barrel as they move through a barrel so it would seem to me any polish/wax/residue you apply to your barrel will eventually (like say... 500 shots?) get scraped out by paintballs anyway. Also, any extra residue you apply to your paintballs in the barrel feels like a bad thing.
I feel like you'd have be getting lots of breaks for a wax to be helpful.Comment

Aye Joker, it was the old magic. I used the Proteam stuff all the time. Did it work? I think it helped, is it the same theory that orks use, if I believe it works it does? maybe. I have some different waxing products in my garage. I may check those out.Comment

Well, I was already planning on testing various "treatments" and lubes on bolt systems and how each affects velocity. Might have to try to come up with a modern version of the barrel break shoot through test.Comment

I personally doubt there's much difference. J&Js are ceramic coated, and there's not much better than that, and I still don't see a difference. Just use a swab. You might as well be "waxing your barrel"Comment

Some windex down the barrel was an old Spyder tactic, at least it circulated a lot on the old Kingman forums.
I've been meaning to try some NeverWet to see if if it does anything. Although lately I've been just using my Timmy and it's rare to have a break, usually just goo buildup from sloppy balls.Comment

After giving this more thought. There is a oldschool paintballer that used to be on here quite a bit that swore by using bowling lane wax to coat the inside of Nelspot barrels. Highly durable and last longer but a pain to apply.Originally posted by MAr "... Nish deleted it..."
