Shooting wolves with paintballs specifically to piss them off

Not joking, not hyperbole, and also not vandalism.

Paintballs to be shot at Dutch wolves in bid to make them less tame.

Interesting idea, and might work, though there is this quote from later in the story:

Paintballs have been chosen so that rangers can see which have been hit.
As someone who has deliberately shot animals (neighbor had a problem with a moose eating his horses' hay) I can tell you without a doubt, there's no way they'll get a ball to break on a wolf. A shorthair like a greyhound or dalmatian, maybe. Wolf? No way. It's like shooting a hanging curtain.

This is one of those ideas that sound great on paper, and ends up not working out so well in real life.
1 Going to be way more difficult to hit than they think
2 Paintball hit, if it breaks as doc noted, won't be visible in the hair
3 This will only make them scared of people with guns (if they're not already genetically predisposed to that)

    Interesting though, thanks for posting.

gotta agree with doc, I've accidentally hit my dogs while playing 'paintball fetch' before... they weren't angry, not even a yelp, and just looked confused at the unbroken ball laying on the ground for a moment before chomping it

      interesting.
i used paintballs as geese control but they dont break; or really do anything for that matter.

(nice fluffy dog btw. looks like a cross between a greyhound and a sheepdog lo)

I know I am a 5 year old at heart but the land owners name made me giggle and now i want to share. The land owners name is Seger Emmanuel baron van Voorst tot Voorst. I just see Baron von worst toot worst, as if he had the worst toots and they made sure to double it so everyone knew.

I thank you for dealing with my childish behavior and will go sit in the corner to repent.

So...you’re in paintball range and might just piss them off instead of spook them?

This seems like a really bad idea. Plus even if it breaks, they aren't gonna call their hit anyway, so what's the point?

If i can come out of the corner i have a great idea , Nelson makes a scent burst paintball with a couple of "flavors" I think if they start shooting the wolves with Doe in heat, Coyote Urine, and bear attractant. The wolves would not know what to do, it would throw them off and they might get a buck, bear or yote or even two attracted to them.

Or those old Dynasty banana scented paintballs. What self respecting wolf wants to smell like banana.

I had a little bastard of a woodchuck that was eating all my stuff and every time I saw them I'd sent a bunch of paint down at them. Not sure if I ever impacted, but he hesitated before invading the garden for a while at least.

I got one I call 50 cent because he got I don’t know how many rounds of 22cal Hollow point air rifle rounds in him. Figured he would die of lead poisoning at this point. He has since migrated to the neighbors house so he’s no longer my problem for now. I have seen those suckers scale a 30’ fence of razor wire they are tough as nails.

Go with the crowd control version, the FN303. Maybe add the PAVA. That'll annoy them, for sure.

First strike at 450fps will surely do the trick. Wild dog is smart they learn quickly. People just got to stop feeding them.

I was shooting red paintballs straight up into the air in an open field, a dog nearby went and lay in it on the owners driveway. The police showed up at my house saying I shot a dog with a pellet gun, thankfully I didn't have a pellet gun. I guess he got covered in “blood”.

I agree that paintballs are just going to be like shooting a curtain on a wolfs thick coat of fur. I don't think anything good can come from injuring animals, thats not the type of fear you want to invoke, that can only lead to aggression when confrontation does occur.

Hmmm... Fire non-lethal slow-moving projectile from short range at predator species known as a symbol of aggression, cunning, and viciousness... What could possibly go wrong 🤔
