Or, hear me out- reverse ramping. First shots are as fast as you pull and it slowly goes down to 5.5. Utter chaos

It’d be interesting, that’s for sure.

oh, to watch the confusion on the faces of those who depend on ramping the first time they use it. A+ in my books Jonny!

It at least should be a "hidden" mode on the board, that you can use to prank you buddy before a game!

They should just switch to single trigger semi auto again and make cheating automatic ban for the rest of the season and the entire next season for all players on the entire team regardless of who did it on the team.

mechanical bounce is checked scrupulously with an objective tool that we can all debate about how to improve

Electronic bounce or ramp is checked electronically or some chip is mandatory. Gun companies are eager to have a new version to sell anyways

but as others have said it’s the least fun version of paintball so who cares

So 10 man rules that’s available all over the place it’s a ton of fun. ICC, Woodsball World Cup, lots of local fields are bringing Mech events back. I see them advertised all the time and they draw big numbers. Hell ICC had like 100 10 man teams registered at one event. It sold out in 15 min and People were selling there spots for $1500 over cost. It died with Tim unfortunately but there are still a bunch of massive events threw out the US. I remember our team super happy to get 40 something because it was the cut off for the ability to lock in next year’s event.

My understanding is that ramping is a thing partly as a safer replacement for full auto (no runaway gun if a trigger gets jammed down) and partly as a kind of tacit compromise with players over ROF caps. The deal is basically "We're taking away uncapped semi, but we'll let you have this ramping mode in exchange for imposing ROF caps, so you can at least take full advantage of whatever the ROF cap allows." I suspect it's also a kind of tacit compromise with cheater boards. Instead of fighting a losing battle trying to police hidden firing modes in (nominally) uncapped semi, ramping is the concession offered in exchange for giving up cheater boards. Kind of like taxing and regulating marijuana instead of persisting in futile efforts to maintain a total ban.

This probably isn't the system you'd design if you were just making this up from scratch, but it sort of makes sense in the historical context of the evolution of competitive paintball.

The Automag: Not as clumsy or random as an electro. An elegant marker for a more civilised age.

Observe from the sidelines if the game changes, for better or for worse. Make a note if tournament paintball becomes more interesting to watch.

Interview the players themselves during and afterwards for their perspective as well.
So, it dawned on me that this "hopper limiting the rate of fire " scenario, already played itself out in the early 2000's !

This was the span of time where Paintball saw guns like the Angel hit the tourney scene, but before the Halo loader came out.

Here we see Angels being used in tournament play, all using Revvies, the fastest loader of the time at approx. 10 bps

Since Angels can easily outshoot a Revvy, and don't have eyes, these players must have been conscious of their shooting speeds.

So the question becomes, compared to modern tournament paintball with Ramping, is the game shown in this video the best version of tourney paintball?

Is it a better game to play and also to watch?

What kind of ROF were guys ACTUALLY able to do back in the days of uncapped semi (ie no bounce or cheater boards)? I've heard anecdotes of well into the 20s but when I tried it myself I was maxing out at like 15 and it wasn't sustainable.

I like the idea of uncapped semi and having the loader being the limiting factor, but I agree it isn't as practical as rof caps for the firing mode. The reverse ramp idea is a cool idea but is it really that difficult to negate the use of cheater boards with uncapped semi? Maybe having the loader be the limiting factor is the right way to go?

When I think of safety concerns I think of having to stop a stream of paint ASAP because someone's mask has just flown off. With slow full auto or semi it is possible to stop shooting immediately whereas with ramping you might get a few shots even after you've realized you need to stop.
