The One Big Project That Never Happened

Many of us have paintball projects & building aspirations. Some are "if I get time", some get half done & shelved, some get completed, and some buy a single part to start a new build around (you know who you are, lol).

What I want to know is what is that one big project that you always wanted to do but, for whatever reason(s), could never get done or ever had the chance to do. That one that always resurfaces in your mind but just never came to fruition. Something simple or a full-blown custom job, doesn't matter. And it doesn't have to be limited to paintguns either- a line of goods, running a field, whatever! I want to hear about it.

The one thing I've always wanted to build was a maxed out 98 RT. Gold power tube, lightened hammer, fancy paint job, the works. Get that sucker ripping 20BPS with just a single trigger press. Every time I buy a 98 with that in mind I either get hit with a bill for something else or it gets shelved because of [insert reason here] and I ultimately sell it off. This has happened to me at least 3 times now, lol. And now a lot of those internal parts are hard to find. I don't know if I'll ever build one, but I still want to.

    Discuss away.

My mares leg lever. I will 100% continue, but I need the time to experiment and trial-error as well as somewhere to work on it. And right now, those two things aren’t in the cards

A "doo doo brown" anodized something, in the spirit of Rocky Cagnoni's famous Angel. Not an Angel though, a sniper or something mechanical with a matching barrel kit. Just too expensive.

I've been procrastinating on my pump cocker Spec Ops Longbow project for the better part of 2 years. I finally got progress on it a few weeks ago, but I need to bribe my machinist to actually get it done.

The other one is a "Mando Rifle" build that I have had floating in my head ever since I saw the first episode. I've tried a few times, twice with phantoms, but it never seems to come together. I am in the process of trying again with a First Strike Scout, but its not quite giving me "Mando" and more "Tactical Tusken Raider".

A Tactical Tuscan Raider? That’s a project we all need you to complete!

I always liked how formidable the Tuskens were with their old junky-looking desert rifles. They really made 'em work. The Book of Boba Fett made me appreciate the Tuskens even more.

A couple years back I tried to challenge myself and make a homebrew LP 98 on a Sierra One (my first gun), despite me having never made a LP blowback before, having no access to or training on machine tools and the form factor of the body making this project far more difficult than on a regular 98. It's been in a ziplock bag for the past few years.

I have Autococker parts that I fully intend to make a build with, despite the fact that I have never owned a functional Autococker (or shot one).

An Azodin KP project that I wanted to make stock class for an event last summer but the parts didn't pan out and I got frustrated with.

A Mokal Fokus that I want to do a VS valve swap to. I haven't been able to find VS guts so I bought an almost complete LP Piranha to hold me over (which I need to buy orings for). I also have another Piranha that is waiting for parts so I can sell it.

2 Tippmann 98s and that are waiting for a sandblast so they can be repainted.

A BT4 in pieces that I want to buy a magfed conversion kit for.

A Tippmann Crossover that's waiting for a selector switch magnet so I can sell it (I emailed Tippmann about that the other day).

A Prolite that doesn't make velocity and I'm not sure what to do and a ProAm project for sale.

I also have almost enough parts to make 2 more Automags (minus the valve). Just missing some of the various 'mag specific small parts.

And I'm inquiring about purchasing a lot of low end STBBs and spools!

I've concluded that the Spyder-Cocker will not come to pass. The crucial element of time is missing and won't be had at any point in the near future.

When I was a young buck my local field had a Stargate scenario and I REALLY wanted to make a staff weapon for the event.

Needless to say that event came and went in like, 2008 and I still haven't moved past the initial drawing and broken ion purchase.

I had plans of making a staff weapon and an Anubis style Jaffa armour.
The late owner of the local field planned on a Stargate big game, he was lining up Christopher Judge to be a guest.

I had machined some parts at work 10 plus years ago to bolt 3 Automags together. I would still like to get around to finishing it.

              Just ran across one today.

Years and years ago, like, circa '99 or so, I bought two of the old Puma pistols from some guy in, I think Canada. Disassembled when I got 'em, and had been for many years. And most importantly, missing the CO2 plugs, so they couldn't just be thrown back together.

I set them aside for some point where I'd have the time to sit down and machine the parts I'd need to fix them up.

I'd been thinking about them and some of my other long-lingering projects, for the last few months, and today, I was having a frustrating time working on another project- probably wasted several hours and a bunch of material, and it's just not working out how I wanted.

I decided that I'd drop that and spend a few minutes digging those guns out, and start to figure out just what they needed. Bacchi sent me some pics of his a few years back, so I know in what order the parts go in, and what the missing plug looks like.

And, of course, I can't find them. I have no clue where they might be.

I'm a card-carrying packrat, and I have junk piled from hell to breakfast, but I also have at least a notion of organization. But even still, they're not anywhere where they should be, they're not in any of the unlikely-but-possible locations, and they're not in the highly-improbable-but-not-technically-physically-impossible locations.

Worse, I can't even recall the last time I did see them. Which could easily be a decade or more ago. Heck, it's not impossible that at some point I sold them, thinking I'd never have the time to work on them. I can't recall doing so, but I've sold a ton of stuff over the years I've forgotten.

Still holding hope I somehow "put them somewhere safe", but I'm at a loss as to where they could be.

              Doc.

I have three major projects that have gone completely still born..... Sadly one will likely be abandoned.

                1) I've had for the last 12 ish years had the design and cad required to make a break action hammer fired brass and wood beast. The biggest killer as of late was the release of the break action umarex gun...... Why bother with something when the cost of materials alone is triple what that thing costs?

                2) A run of cocker bodies themed around mad max fury road with a sprinkle of 98 STO...... Dead and likely abandoned. Why? Flooded cocker market, my cnc's make more money post covid and have been running every day since. Oh and white supremacists gleaning onto the whole "warboy" thing post January 6th.... Ugh.

                3) The modern Taso BE-90 that would be SLS printed and emek based....... This is stalled because I need to machine a part and haven't had free machine time to do. Other factors include me becoming dissolutioned with the emek since inception ripped off my best selling design which killed my emek bodies sales and killed off my source of fun money.

                  A pneumatic pulse valve.

I build lots of pneumags, and as great as they are, they can still short stroke if you don't fully release the trigger between shots. For years I've dreamed of a making a pulse valve that could deliver a pre-measured blast of air that immediately vents after pushing the piston. My research and R&D into that project did indirectly lead to the SPAR valve, which is definitely cool, but the pulse valve still evades me.
View my feedback or read about my Virginia woodsball club.

Let me make you something. I build pneumags, auto-response frames, and wooden pill cases.

My god, a pneumatic pulse valve, especially if it were adjustable/tunable as to the volume of air released, would open up a lot of guns to mech conversion that aren't currently feasible to convert.

I sold this thing off about ten years ago, and I think I sold it here on MCB. I bought it like shown with plans to Freak it, and finish the semi conversion, then run a Cali style stock that I still have, actually. I keep thinking about posting a WTB to see if I can find the owner and buy it back, but whenever I think about it, I start thinking about all the other cheaper and closer-to-finished projects that I have, and I end up just buying crap for them instead.

Is it wrong to assume that one project clearly stands out above all the others?
