    RIP Bob Casselberry

I feel weird being the guy to post this because I was simply a Facebook follower of Bob. It appears, if you haven’t seen it yet, he took his own life. There are more details on the Angel Facebook page.

This one just feels so crazy. Uncle Bob kept Angels alive, what felt like, single-handedly.

    Another good paintball guy gone.

I just figured I’d post here because I know a lot of you aren’t on Facebook anymore.

    Sad.

The way it all went down is extremely sad and tragic. RIP Bob

I read his last post. The depth of his sorrow was unbearable for him. I'm Hospice nurse, and frequently have conversations with patients who want to die. I don't expect it to show up in my paintball related forums or groups though.

Please talk to someone when these thoughts enter your mind. Bob was valued by far more people than he realized, and made a positive difference in their lives. He was absolutely worth something. May he rest in peace.

Very sad. Have his friends and family in my thoughts.

Didn’t know him super well but played a Monster Game with him. Really a good dude that had respect from tons of people.

        Rest in peace

Hugely moving, tragic, and traumatic. Don't know what else to say. Going to go hug my family.

For those of us that aren't on FB, can somebody give us a summary?

This isn't a drive-by "oh, let's stop and look at the train wreck" kind of thing. I was once in the next room over when somebody close took their own life, and there wasn't a goddam thing I could have done to stop it. That was a case of a terminal illness, and they fought and fought until they couldn't anymore.

Hell, even if I could have stopped it, it wouldn't been a matter of more than a few days, a week at most in any case.

I might not agree, but thankfully I've never been in that position, either. I can, however, at least understand, sort of.

Depression is another story entirely. Checking out is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

              Doc.

In short, Bob Casselberry was “The Angel Whisperer.” He was the most helpful member of the Angel community that I’d witnessed. Incredibly helpful. I only talked to him a few times over the years, but he was always a genuinely nice guy. If an Angel needed work, he was THE guy.

Unfortunately, it seems he took his own life today. There was a post on Facebook, I believe a screen shot from his page, that maybe should be shared, so people can see. I don’t have it, however. It was as heavy as one might expect.

Just a sad loss… and a crushing blow the community. The entire Angel group is just condolences now.

I only ask because I associate his name with the "old guard"- guys like Bud and Tom, Jessica Sparks, Tim Schultz, Larry Cossio, etc. Am I right in that or once again out of my tree?

What I do know is that of late I'd been sending customers with Angel issues to him, since my free time is limited, and there were better, more specialized techs out there.

Was it a 'termianl sickness' thing or depression?

It seems like the latter after reading his post. It's very, very sad.

Thanks to those that sent me a link. You're right, it's a truly awful read, but personally, I'll be damned if I'm gonna stand by and let it happen again, if I have the power to help. I want to know what to look for, and unfortunately, that means reading things like that.

I'm also one of the many without Facebook and it is sad to hear of a tragic passing. Honestly after the reviews, not sure I will go out of my way to read it. Some people's pain are just too much for them to bare.

Is there a proper bio anywhere outside of Facebook? I swear I remember that name from way back, like back when I ran my own field, and that was over 20 years ago.

Bob was a great guy. Literally one of the very nicest people that I have met in the game. He donated to our charity raffles, bought more than a few things from me, I met him a Fulda a few years ago in person, and was the only one of my customers that ever sent me something as a thank you. I literally have perogi and kielbasa in my fridge and freezer right now from him. I spoke with him a couple of weeks ago about playing with/for me this year at Fulda Gap, and let him know I was super excited that he was coming down and bringing friends. I'm not going to claim I was the closest to him, but he was a friend and exactly the type of person that I love meeting in paintball.

I'm shocked. I'm sad. I honestly felt sick reading that post 19 minutes after he put it up and still feel that way. I immediately called a mutual friend who knew him better to call him up and check on him and he got voicemail. Every single part of this is awful. All of it.

I had a few friends send this to me last night as i am no longer on fb. Really sad to hear Bob is gone and especially how it happened. I can't imagine the stuff he was going through but i can certainly say that Bob was not one to deserve it. I met him a few years ago at Fulda too and he was a super nice guy. I know the paintball community is going to miss him for sure.
