The best players use the least paint.
Sure, a high RoF is exciting. But also wasteful and shows a lack of skill. Unless painting the landscape is some sort of talent.

My disapproval is showing. Doesn't mean I'm going to quit playing. Let them have their fun.
I find it more satisfying to achieve that one shot that counts with a stock class marker against an opponent with an electro.

I dont support it with walk on play unless everyone has their own stuff and is using it . If anyone is renting i feel pure capped semi or mech is better and what i do. Its a great way to play and tinker with stuff i got nostalgia for or never got to use like my automag , autococker, pump gun, impulse, etc. Charging up the hill and getting a few people with just a few shots feels a lot better.

All I know is I truly miss the old school when pump was the only game in town... It was fast enough... but more strategy and more fun all around.. that is just how I feel and I miss it..

I miss playing speedball with pump...

I miss paying woods ball with a stock PGP and stacking 10 bodies only shooting 10 paintballs the whole game...

Last but not least I miss real .690 paint...

Definitely true about the new class of speed mechs. These can dump paint. Make them play with a gravity hopper and let them ramp all they want.

I bought a Nova N2 specifically to be something faster, but still mechanical to use at larger events where the paint is so crap it doesn't make sense to play pump.

I feel like more experienced players lean towards shooting less naturally because they realize the game is more fun and cheaper to play that way. These kids with a dollar and a dream dropping 2500 on a new electro should not be told that they have to tune the thing down to Tippmann 98 rates of fire. But they need to be respectful to everyone playing. The issue really come in when the experience don’t match the gear and you got boards making the markers do things they haven’t learned to control. That creates a bad environment. Or garbage competitive players use to getting got, Ego farming rentals in walk on and honestly that grinds my gears worse because they know exactly what they are doing. Unlike a new player over shooting in panic situations. One is easy to fix by ref or seasoned player stepping up and saying something. Nice move but in the future maybe soot him one time in the back.

Sounds like you are also very passionate about that subject. It bothers me to no end when people trample over the new players or rentals for their own ego boost. I have talked to those guys a bit at the field trying to give them the hint, but they are usually young men who are also hyper competitive and just don't see things from the same perspective. The field i frequent is blessed with quite a few older players who are grounded and all about expanding paintball and catering to new players.

That's all it takes most of the time. Someone pointing out what they are doing is wrong. A good, experienced ref helps because they have a perception of authority. But you don't always get that. I see it a lot less now but I'm also playing a lot less rec and more private pump days and events.

Went to the local field a few years ago and used my mech Orracle to play with for the day.
Nothing fancy, but I didn't want to be singled out for the guy with the electronic marker that shoots fast.
Unfortunately I and most of the walk-ons got put up against the field team.
They were all ramped up for an upcoming tourney and were using the rec players to target practice.
It was pretty ugly for the first few games, so I went and broke out my LV, asked one of the player what they were set at and dialed her in.
Things changed very quickly the next game cause we played on the tire field that I was very familiar with from playing many years of tourney ball on.
I knew where they would go and how to shoot those bunkers blind.
I got all the other players organized, told them where to go and what to do and to listen for me out on the field.
                            We waxed them good.
After that, they divided up the teams so it was more fair and I switched back to the Orracle.
Can't stand it when people do that.

This thread made me realize I haven't hit the field but once with an electro in the last 5 years. I have all of mine set to 10.5bps semi just in case but they always sit in the gearbag while I use a blowback/cocker/mag instead. I never really feel out gunned either, even when dudes are ramping.

I'll agree with the "it depends" sentiment. If it's just a bunch of self equipped dudes with decent tournamnet gear then 10.5 ramp is cool. As soon as you start mixing in renters or newbies, keep it single finger semi if you please.
