It was designed by Daystate as an "improved" version of the Daystate Patriot, designed for the rental market in the UK in the mid 90s. The Patriot itself an "improved" version of the Montneel Z1.
Originally as a rental-only, for fields like UK Mayhem, they later revised it again and sold it as the phoenix, but could not compete with all the cheap stacked-tube guns, or even as a rental against Tippmanns.

It still has a montneel-style valve, trigger, breech, etc. But one cool concept was the bolt rod, connecting the bolt to the hammer, goes THROUGH the center of the valve. Thats why you don't see if in the breakdown picture above. It gives the gun a very nice profile. Many years later, the Bob Long Marq guns used a similar concept.

Another cool thing is that its trivial to make the gun right-feed, or left feed, or center feed. Just drill a new hole for the screw, and then rorate the breech. I acquired a bunch of these TFX2000s guns with the plans to make it a 3-gun monster.... by rotating the feeds diferent angles. Plus, the dial co2 ports means I could connect them together. Only ever got half way done. I did make some goofy animations somewhere.

What's the point of the gauge?

I assume as site rentals these would have been run on CO2, and even if not it would have been downstream of any regulator.
