    US Customs Issues

Shipped my Tippmann Factory FA to the States, as I have done many times in the past with various paintball
markers and gear. Apparently my package got flagged by US Customs and has been sitting with them for well
over a month. I launched an inquiry with Canada Post and they came back to me with this:

The scans for this item indicate it is in the Customs-clearance process. With the item now removed from the mail stream, we are not able to investigate further.
We reached out to the Foreign Postal Administration (USPS) to inquire about the status of your item, and they responded that they had no control over items held in Customs, unfortunately.
    Response from USPS:
“US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) received the item on 24/06/2023 and is currently processing it. CBP has 45 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) to process the item. CBP has an additional 45 days to notify the recipient if the package is seized. If CBP detains a package, the International Mail Branch will send a letter to the recipient to explain the reason and provide specific contact information for further assistance. CBP can only track or investigate the status of a package after 90 business days (after 01/11/2023 for this item). If the recipient does not receive a detention or seizure notice within 90 business days, the recipient may write to CBP via the help.cbp.gov website and include the following details about the package: 1. Name and address of the consignee / recipient (as it appears on the package) 2. Name and address of the sender (as it appears on the package) 3. The contents of the package. Please be specific including quantity, manufacturer and value. 4. Tracking Number of the package Once CBP concludes its inquiry, the recipient will receive a response with the results of the review. USPS agents cannot contact CBP for any information on package clearance or delay. CBP is completely autonomous from the USPS.”
Items may be held by customs on suspicion of prohibited or restricted contents. For future mailings to foreign destinations, we recommend you review the list of import restrictions and prohibited items included in the International Destination Listing at canadapost.ca or contact the embassy of the destination country.
Accordingly, we will now close your ticket.

So anyone had this problem? They seem to be implying I’ve shipped something illegal and I would assume not be able to claim insurance on the item, which will be a fairly good hit.

I’ve shipped a good amount of markers to the US without so much as a hiccup.

Have you run out the clock yet for how long they can take to process (and then notify regarding) the item? I'd assume this has to do with it being mech full auto and that at one point in their history (and to a limited extent currently) Tippmann produced firearms (many being full auto). I'd imagine it'll be fine once they dig into it. In the meantime, let's just hope your recipient doesn't own a dog...

Looks like their time runs out of Aug 29-31 (depending of US holidays). If they take the additional 45 days it might be October, November to notify me. I guess nothing to do but wait and see. - Correction, November 1st is what they say in the email. Man that's a long time to be sitting...

Thankfully the recipient has been very understanding and I've kept him informed the entire time.

I have had 2 different things come back from customs lately. Both of which said i was missing the customs form..... which is now linked to digitally to the package when the label is printed. I am sure it will get worse not better.

I do electronic customs forms and Canada Post prints them out and stick them to the packages.

I shoot airguns and have noticed a few more people dealing with customs delays than normal when shipping. Things are getting through though.

Please update us as this develops. I’m shipping vinyl to Europe and had them try to double dip on the VAT charge. I had to sort them out with a firm “not gonna happen”. Albeit that was Netherlands, but the principle is the same!☝️

And they just returned my Tippmann TCR without providing a reason. Canada Post refunded my shipping at and said to send it again.

At least they refunded you, I guess. Usually that's a double pay.

I guess because no reason was given for it being returned by Customs.
