Marketing tricks and snake oil? Or do the Dye backs and fronts "self align" for a "perfectly concentric" barrel? Dye and the Field One barrels are the only ones that claim this. I know a back and a front can be out of wack and the front isn't centered very well. Even one piece barrels can not be straight. Hell, BMC sent back a Dye UL back because it wouldn't sit straight enough to bore.

Without even having seen the barrels, I dismiss the claim.
I make this bold statement simply due to the fact that more than 90% of all the bells and whistles for paintball being hailed as the next great breakthough, has in fact turned out to be snake oil that - at best - did not affect the performance. At those times that performance was affected, it for sure wasn't for the better.

Concentricity in regards to boring barrels is different than the tip and back bores being concentric.
Acculock does this by adding a chamfer at the tip of the barrel back and or insert and inside the back of the tip. I believe dye did the same as they saw the marketing from the acculock
PWR Dye inserts are slightly different than the PE or ID inserts because of this. Even though they should both work together.
The concentricity BMC is referring to is the OD of the barrel in regards to the ID. If they are not concentric then the bore will be kicked off to a side and insert will not sit straight. That is why brandon has to clamp each barrel multiple times and indicate them while doing so.
TJD had a different setup that allowed the barrel to sit on a dead center on the chuck side and he would adjust a steady rest to get the barrel to run true no matter how far out they were. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaUXIC3WNjABeardedWorks.com (Your Inception Designs and Shocktech Dealer)

This was done long before the latest dye or bob long offerings. Powerlyte scepter barrels align the insert to the front via chamfers. They are fantastic barrels and in my opinion far better than any of the freak systems. They just didn't have the name recognition or marker market to send their products out with. Also it is far easier to adapt any other barrel to be freak bored than the other styles.

100% marketing/sales hype.
As long as the eccentricity isn't large enough to actually catch the ball, it's irrelevant. Especially with today's crap paint.

Not sure but I put DYE barrels on everything. I think they shoot better. Maybe I am just use to the way they point. But the only barrel I found to shoot better than the stock barrel on my Phantom is a dye barrel, and some other one piece barrels. Haven’t tried the new style ones but I'm a slut for a good old UL.
That being said, I hate dye markers newer then a DM6 but they make a good barrel and hopper (LTR anyway).

Yeah my real question is besides a statistical irrelevant number of barrels, is this actually an issue?

Some barrels are out a good amount. Popular ones too. Ask anyone who freak bores them how many can’t be done because they are so far out.

It's worth noting I've Freak-bored an F-ton of barrels, and I can't recall seeing one that might have been more than a few thousandths eccentric.
That said, most of the ones I've done have been aftermarket, and while I haven't seen it myself, I can well imagine that some cheap stock barrels could be out by larger amounts.
Doc.
