Barefoot Cerakote Out of Business

Hey all,

I am a little late, but just spreading the news. Barefoot Custom Coatings shut down a couple months ago. I am super bummed and don't know much about what happened. It was a great company run by a really awesome guy. Let's hope they end up doing something even better.

Yeah, I wish they posted something saying they were struggling (I understand why they wouldn't) because I had a handful of projects I was going to have them do, but I hadn't gotten around to bringing them in yet.

Oh wow. I used them for the first time early in September on my Nova trigger shoe. They were great to deal with. I was going to have them do my real steel as well. What a shame.

-It may very well not have been simple business flow. A recent prime example is Palmer's- it sure wasn't low sales that did them in.

I mean, I know nothing about BFC, but I do know a bit about the pitfalls that face a small business owner. Yeah, low sales and a bad economy don't help, but the sad fact is, there's a million other reasons a shop might close down. Maybe he was leasing a workshop, and the building's been sold. And there's just not enough income and savings to try and find a new location. Maybe the building owner just doubled the rent, which made an already only-barely-profitable business unsustainable.

There could be environmental issues (paints, VOCs, the local authorities swept in and said they had to add a wildly expensive exhaust filtration system, etc.) trouble from the ATF about handling firearms (I'm given to understand they're cracking down on small-scale FFL holders) or even, given some of the modern anti-business and basically pro-crime attitudes by some state governors and mayors, he dimply decided it was no longer worth the hassle.

Again, no idea in this particular case, just sayin' there's more than just low sales that can shut down a business.

That's a bummer to hear. They did one of my Sanchez pumps and it turned out wonderful. I had kept planning on doing another project but couldn't decide/settle on a design and project.

Who is everyone using now for Cerokote?

I want to have a pro shield done in that Chameleon FX.

Anyone got experience applying Cerokote? Looks like I can use the tools I already have to apply it. I have a high end SATA HVLP and a good amount of experience with automotive body work. I wonder if I can use the tools I already got.
