    Paintball Math

I am not sure where I heard it first but I have heard about "Girl Math" ie if you buy something with cash it is free since there is no record of the item being purchased. Another good one is if you buy a concert ticket in January that is in June, when the concert gets there you are going for free. My favorite is I returned something for 90 dollars and bought something for 100 so i only spent 10 dollars.

I have noticed that I tend to use "Paintball Math" If i sell something or give it away I need to buy two more things to fill the hole that the item took. If I am planning on playing with 1 marker then I need to take 4, 1 to use, 1 for backup, 1 for a loaner and 1 to show off and work on in my "down time".

I can think of others but are there any that are universal or that you use?

"Buy high, sell low" has been my inadvertent yet infallible motto when transacting paintball gear.

This guy wants $*** for the gun i want?
I can sell the build i spent double on that for that much! Its sure to sell fast for that price. Besides, I got my moneys worth out of it in "had fun" points!

-me at least once a year 🙈

I’ll barter over $10 on a $300 gun online, but if I need a squeegee at the field and they’re charging $25 for it, I’m buying that squeegee.

      No doubt need trumps all.

If I need 6 inches of macro, best to buy 6 feet

Need 2 mounting screws? Buy 4
And also buy four of the next size up and four of the next size down

Want to strip the factory powder coat off of tippmanns so you can paint them? It's best to spend around 700 to get a light industrial compressor and sandblast setup

Already have a SCUBA tank for home air fills but want a second one so you can trade out and bring out to the woods ball game? Trade a few markers to Super Nova and end up with 3 tanks

This is great. I totally agree with (bc its true?) that if you return an item "for $90, and bought something for 100 so i only spent 10 dollars."

      Mine would be

-Im probably just gunna use my stock class stuff this month for recball so...... a $15 bag of 500 paintballs and
17x 12g carts from my 40count $20 box is all im gunna need all month! 500/17=29.41176470588235. if i get 30 shots per 12g, i just need to shoot a little over 120 shots per weekend!

So, pack my joyride for the day, minus 3 tubes and im set!

with $10 dollar entry, thats only $23 a day!

How could the wife protest those figures?

      😝

spoiler alert: IM GOING IN THE DOGHOUSE REGARDLESS!

        some bonus points:

-im on the homefield "team" and get discounts on entry and paint

-i switch up my play style in a mixed (mech, electro, rentals) group to better hit these 'conservative' expectations. buddy-up with the speedball gang and only make risky moves when things seem logical.

-if i need it, i usually have paint leftover from the previous weekends, at the end of the day when folks give away what they didnt shoot. happens alot at our field with all the birthday parties and such

-im not above asking to borrow paint from the other regulars, most of them owe me all sorts of favors anyways!

If you borrow paint, just make sure to give it back to them on the field at high speed.

See an experience player who knows better intentionally light up a newbie 5 times at close range? Break out the electro and shoot him 10 times next time ya bunker him.

(might be a bit much but I absolutely go after experienced players who do this to new players with zero mercy lol)

when i was buying and selling back in the day, a 10% loss was OK, but a 5% loss was a win. this is a hobby...

If I have spare parts left over from a build and buy more parts to turn those other parts into a complete gun, it's basically a free gun right?

This one is true. I sorted my Automag spare part box recently and realised I was able to assemble two complete classic mag for free.

I have built complete markers around a single cool part. This is definitely my paintball math.

I am tempted to buy a $1000 CCM so I can save on the amount of paint I will shoot. That make this purchase free in the long run

In my wife’s defense I didn’t give her a choice. Getting her a marker was really just an excuse for me to buy more fancy markers. But I got to give it to her she played a good amount the past few years and even enjoys playing pump in our pump only games we host. I built her a really nice S6 for her first pump and she uses it so no complaints from me.

          I dig the topic.

I struggle with paintball math on shipping shipping, and fuel. I buy a lot on craigslist. I usually keep one item out of the lot, and try to part the rest out to break even, if its some ridiculous item, Ill flip it for profit, but In all cases I omit shipping, and fuel costs from my math. I drive 80 miles to buy a lot. It takes x fuel. I buy said lot for 100 dollars. I sell 3 of the 4 items for a total of 150 dollars into my paypal. Paypal takes their ~$8..

ship one to RI for $15
          One to Florida for $23
And one to Canada for $60.

I just made 50 bucks!! And got a free gun!

Fuel doesn’t go into my equations but shipping does. Being in Canada shipping is expensive.

My boys are currently playing 50 cal, but if I buy them 68 cal gear now, I’ll save 2-3 years worth of inflation, only to sell the 68 cal gear in 2-3 years at a loss to help buy newer stuff for them.

Wait, I have a spare grip frame screw? I guess it’s time to build an entire marker around it so I don’t waste the $0.27 the screw cost me!
