Any thoughts on the new DYE GF Boomsticks?

Any experience with the DYE glass fiber Boomsticks? They seem like a really solid option given that they're nearly half the price of the CF's at only $85, and they even have the same aesthetic too.

    All the best,

    TMG

I purchased all my CF backs for around that used. I don’t see why you couldn’t get the CF ones used. I would love to find a set of the Carbon fiber kit that came on the red Cloth DM. They had a gloss red collar on them instead of the silver. My buddy has a set of the ones with the black collar so they are all gloss black and carbon those are super nice to.

If it was me I would buy the Carbon Fiber wrapped ones or just get a regular UL. They shoot exactly the same. I put Dye barrels on everything. But I don’t like the look of the GF barrels.

Lol, looks like they have been out ~4 years now? I would not have known they weren't just a version of the CF which they look very similar to.

My concern would be the splinters that will eventually come off the fiberglass. Given the average use and lifespan of a player I doubt anyone who purchased one new will experience it. Should be a while yet...

It’s a stainless bore wrapped in CF / GF (Gel-coated fiberglass) it’s basically a Stainless control bore UL barrel.

punkncat LOL Have they? Sorry, I just got back into PB after a multiyear hiatus. New "to me" I should say, rather.

Chuck E Ducky I bought a new UL-S back recently. Very happy with it.

It’s a stainless bore wrapped in aluminum then a section of it is covered in CF or GF. The GF came out because they were cheaper to produce then the exposed CF. It’s basically a cosmetic difference from a standard UL barrel. This is coming from someone that puts a UL on everything.

I alway check the alignment of the inner SS sleeve to the aluminum threads, I have had two that were off. One advantage of the aluminum backs is they do not have this problem.

Meh.... I've had one come "unglued" and all the parts came apart.... They exchanged it for a new one but it wasn't my favorite barrel

I had my CF barrels for probably 10+ years. I got all kinds of tips for it. Had a whoosh, parabolic, Sconi, old fat Dye tip, newer UL style in all different kinds of lengths. I love dye barrels. Hate dye markers with a passion but they make awesome barrels and great hoppers. Rest of the stuff is meh..

DYE markers are OK. The old school private labels before the Gen-E Matrix buyout in 2003 were pretty good with exception of the Ultralite & Reflex Cockers (atrocious pneus and bolt-systems). That being said, the DYE Angel LCD, Matrix LCD, etc, were very good examples of great private labels, even though the DYE LCD 'trix body looked like the stock Gen-E with nothing exceptional about it. That being said, post-Matrix buyout, the DM4-DM7 were paradigm shattering in terms of smoothness and ROF. And then spool-valve competition grew with PE's release of the Geo, the GOG Luxe, etc, and the DM platform became a bit mediocre with its yearly releases vis-a-vis the GEO and Luxe. But all things considered DM's are very solid, reliable markers. But go back to 2004 for just a moment again, the DM4 was a breathtaking marker and you were hard pressed to find something that shot smoother and faster back then. Maybe only the classic Matrix did. Hence the spool valve takeover that started with the classic Matrix in 2001 with the Ironmen, NYX, Trauma, Lockout, and Image Matrices, then the SFT Shockers, etc. Today, there are zero poppets at the top of the game. Not even PE LV1's.

And of course, this is coming from someone that collects and shoots Cockers, I've owned a plethora of Timmies, AKA guns, Angels, classic Matrices, etc. And I havent owned a DYE DM since the DM4 back in 2004. So not a DYE fan boy by any means, but the DM is a solid platform. I'm just saying: Apart from the 2003 Cockers, they have put out some of the highest performing markers. And the DM4 -DM7 was pivotal in changing hearts and minds towards the spool valve. So "hate" is kinda of a strong word. But if you don't like em, then you dont like em. I do dislike the DYE Ultralite and Reflex Cockers though. I think that they're only good as Snipers, even if you change the pneus, you're still left with the God awful bolt-system:

Dye were always hit or miss warm weather markers. Perfect condition and clean they worked great other then being gas hogs. The newer ones got a lot better but they were the worst markers when it came to reliably. I feel like Dye production went crap>DM6<crap>DM11 and up. Just from experience being forced to shoot them due to sponsorship back in my Xball days and how often they were down. I will never buy a Dye marker. I just hate them. Purchased way to many $1K+ paperweights from them. Some I’m glad I payed cost for because they weren’t Worth their weight in scrap.

I have an original 1st Gen Dye Rotor I absolutely love. I purchased it new the day they were released at a PSP event. I still use it today it’s ever let me down. It’s probably my most used paintball product I own. It’s got thousands of cases threw it. I now use it on my mech markers. All I did was add the updates fined feed ramp and Velcro for the battery’s.

I have been using Dye barrels forever I always preferred them over all others. I have tips that are so worn they are polished from just playing.

Dye packs use to be good I purchased a new one and it lasted two days of play before falling apart. They replaced it for free. But there soft good are always hit or miss as well. I have had dye pants that last forever and the very next year rip in the first few outings.

The $80 Dye tool is handy other then getting stabbed all the time by the dam Oring picks.

Sorry way off topic I just despise Dye markers. Nothing like flying half way across the world to play an event. Only to have the marker crap out on you multiple times with multiple markers at multiple events. Not being to use the markers that worked at events due to sponsorship was infuriating. I have left teams due to them going with Dye sponsorships.

I do agree that the eye pipe was a huge problem for the DM7+, but the spool valve markers are some of the easiest to work on. On cold weather you're supposed to run the dwell a bit higher like 18-20. And if its really warm like it is her ein South Florida, you can also run it low like 13-14. But lubricant performance varies wildly and there are a lot of factors that come into play. I was certified Gen-E, DYE, and MacDev airsmith. I can tell you that dwell, lubrication, and proper reg sweetspotting can play a huge difference in overall performance including efficiency. This is true for all spoolies. We all ran Timmies before being sponsored by MacDev (RNT All Starz) 1st place in 2007 D1, practiced and rang for Rage a few times. But overall spoolies are way easier to run than poppets. I also worked on Angel, Cockers, Timmies, and all poppets even though I wasnt certified officially.

I did go with a UL-S recently though. Very nice UL. Seems even quieter than the old UL's, but that might be placebo, I dunno

I do want to try one of those UL-S I just like my CF stainless backs. I have the complete set. I really want to find a CF set with the red collars and CF wrapped. I might even buy a dye marker to get a kit. 😂

you would need the anniversary DM14xx iornman edition to get them. I did that for the blue ones... seems dumb but the little blue ring makes me happy.

Didn’t they come on the “cloth” red DM11 or 12ish maybe I will just have mine Cerokote and skip the headache. Most of my stuff is all red and black. I agree it’s silly but I like nice things. I remember them coming out I was in the dye both at some event and I was like oh I want that barrel kit but they didn’t offer it separate.
