Stockclass is so much fun, you could check for a phantom or modify a sniper for 12g and stick feed. But the best way is to go with a custom brass sheridan.

While this is absolutely true for a lot of players, myself included for a time, I have since changed my view. I LOVE the ultralight setup and the added challenge of going up against fully equipped players is an absolute rush.

I'm going to echo others and say you should consider a Cocker pump. You can use any air source and pop a stick feed on there and be good to go for nearly any situation. If you get bit by the pump bug you will have a full stock class setup by the beginning of spring anyways.

Also +1 for a stick feed on semis. Stick-feed Gmek is one of my favorite setups these days.

Fully agreed here. I can't hit shit with a hopper in my line of sight, and there's something real upsetting about the way a hopper throws off the balance of a phantom.

I'm also on the AT hate train. I do love open class cocker pumps, but 9 times out of 10 I'll toss a tiny HPA tank and a stick feed on it and call it a day.

That was the feeling I thought I might have. I would watch open class games on YouTube and especially with auto trigger it seems like they are trying to get the fastest bps possible and that’s exactly the opposite of what i want to do.

Some guns can definitely auto trigger faster then you'd expect, but for me it's just more about the overall form factor then a BPS race. When I'm playing pump I want to be small, compact, light, and quick. Especially if I'm playing against semis, I'm not going to be winning any gun battles anyway so just want to snap shoot, duck, then reassess my next move. The forced down time between shots forces you to slow down and reevaluate your position, possible opportunities, and overall strategy each shot. The reduced weight and reduced firepower gives it a really raw "you scrambling against the world" feeling that is just not there with an open class gun.

Modified stock class does pretty well too though, I adore my Empire Trracer with a spring feed and a 13 ci. when it's too cold to run 12 grams or if I'm just not feeling up to playing with a pistol that day. I usually run it with a 10" freak barrel.

Yea, I feel like autotrigger is kinda cheating, especially on something like a ccm or a mvp where you can rip it fast enough to basically gun fight semis with only a slight disadvantage.

I jumped into pump play by making a Spump, and buying PGP's. It quickly evolved into modifying brass and playing single shot (a true gentleman's game.) I quickly found like minded people to play with. We probably have the best walk on games with our local group. We self-ref, we laugh, and most important, we all go to have fun.

I guess my advice is to try it, and if you dont like it, try it again a few more times. Things don't always click the first time, but boy is it satisfying to shoot a semi auto out with a quick one ball snap shot.

I don't think anyone has suggested this yet- buy the higher quality (more expensive) paint. Paint today is mostly garbage compared to what it was years ago, even as late as 2008/2009 when pump took off again. We owe GI for that, but I'll not get into that here. Only the higher-end paint is actually worth shooting if you're purposely limiting your ammunition. And if the field doesn't have any out for sale, ask for it. They might have it in the back. Buy the pricier paint. You'll be happy you did.

You owned a G6R & played tournament. You say you want a real challenge. You said you want stock class, but with you coming from a tournament background I'd still suggest an open class pump just to see if you'll stick with it. And a used open class pump is going to be a bit less expensive than a good stock class option (Phantom), so you may be less stressed about it if you decide it's not your bag.

Just my thoughts, anyway. Any form of pump is wonderful. Just have fun with it.

EDIT: If you go the SC route, a Phantom is usually recommended. However, if a Phantom doesn't work out well for you consider a different marker in that same platform. Bore-drop vs breech drop can make quite the difference in the Nelson platform, as well as undercocking (like a Phantom) vs dual rods/arms to the bolt (like a Trracer). I much prefer the cheaper Trracer to a Phantom for those two reasons alone. Just things to think about.

That’s a dam good deal frame leaves a bit to be desired but that’s an easy fix. Pump kits almost worth asking that would be a dam good start. Get your feet wet see if it’s for you.

Yes thanks for the tips. I will need to see if they offer nicer paint. I have a phantom on the way. Despite most people’s advice I went in headfirst into the stock class experience. I enjoy learning the harder way sometimes going all in. To me it’s like shooting on film cameras with all manual controls and no light meter. It makes getting the perfect shot even more satisfying .
