Thinking of using the DSG for Airsoft.

While chatting with the local field owner today the idea of using reballs in the DSG came to me. He used to practice for paintball tournaments at a reball field years back. He is looking forward to the reactions when I show up to play with it. We are classifieing it as playing with shotgun slugs. Now I just need to get a bunch of recalls.

Let me know when you go, I want to see the reactions.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

So there are actual re-ball fields? How? Are any of them insured? Does your safety gear work?

I thought re-balls were an eBay-only thing that rednecks bought after the feds took their guns away and they still want to shoot neighborhood dogs.

I would think a wad full of bbs could be even more fun.

There's a field near me that used reballs in an indoor setting. The reballs like to jam up forcefeed hoppers and magazines didn't work well with them. The ones I used were slightly smaller than paintballs and the rubber made them "stick" together in feednecks and the odd geometries inside paintball mags. I have a suspicion that they will jam on the sloped feedplug used in the DSG.

There was an indoor field that had a reball setup for a while here. They didn't last long, I don't think reball played into that though. I think they went too big too fast with 2 nppl sized indoor fields and a proshop in a town a half hour drive outside a city that already had an indoor field.

You got an airsoft field owner to allow you to use "slugs"?? Airsoft "slugs" are made for countries that don't allow real firearms for home defense. So no field normally allows them, most places are SUPER strict on ammunition due to insurance reasons. The face protection rules are usually very lax compared to paintball, as some fields don't require mouth/face protection (only eyes). One of those reballs is likely to knock some kids tooth out.

Really surprised you got the ok from a field owner. I would NOT want to be on the receiving end of that round. Reminds me of the days of playing with "Monster Ball", where rounds could shatter people's hoppers.

Yeah Im also surprised. The clqssification of eye protection is totally different between the two.

Whats your set fps limit as a shorgun if I can ask?

The owners gonna be in a world of hurt if someones mask fails, qnd they get injured on account of you doming them out with that thing.

I guess if it were me Id avoid using it in an airsoft game at all. If not for safety and common sense sake, but to not be that douche bag ruining everybody elses fun. Ive played airsoft at the local field after our scrimmages before( its what was running that day and we were outta paint) and at least locally by me, the airsoft kids were yelling at us because we were simply snap shooting and such vs playing tactically like it was mil sim. And we were using rental rifles. How are your locals gonna react when you get special privelages to rock their worlds with that bad boy?

I see no good coming from it myself.

I mean it can be, I don't remember who it was but it was like Friday a video was posted here about using a airsoft gun, that was designed like a paintball marker and they gave it to a pro paintball player at an indoor field.

If you watch that again, everyone there is wearing a paintball mask.

Personally I think it's dumb that airsoft doesn't have any kind of universal safety rules, velocity can be basically anything you want it to be and only "sniper rifles" have "don't shoot within 100 feet" rule. Which, is only dependant on the person with the sniper rifle (I've heard a few horror stories of kids dying in the woods when a sniper rifle round hit them in the jugular vein from way too close and they bleed out before the ambulance can get there)

Fields will often have your chrono with one weight bb but then don't care which weight you use to play which can really change the physics

I've only seen a few airsoft guns that you can change the velocity on without opening it up and changing springs etc.

I think those stories of airsoft kids dying from perforated jugulars might be bogus. An internet search suggests that, to date, there have been 0 recorded deaths from impact by an airsoft round.

If you change the weight of the BB fired, you inherently change the velocity. If you chrono at 350 fps with a .2 g bb, and move up to a .25 g bb, your velocity drops to 310 fps or there abouts. 1/2mv^2 and all that.

Yeah, but energy is energy, so energy per area (i.e. ouch) doesn't change. I think that's why you chrono with a reference mass BB.

Yeah, i agree its semi wild westy, but my local fields pretty smart about it. They run weight restrictions on bbs so ypu cant cheat chrono. High caps not allowed. Mid caps have a velocity cap, snipers can only have 14 rpunds per mag max.

When we scrimage while airsofts running we have to mantain a 2 field barrier from the airsoft games to ensure no one takes a stray ball. Ect, ect.

Thats why Id wanna know what the DSGs velocity limit would be, or better yet what the fields limit is on slugs in general.

You can't cheat the chrono unless you change out the spring in the gun. If you move to a heavier bb, your velocity drops, if you go to a lighter one, it picks up.

I guess in that case it would be smart to set it to whatever the mid cap is, or 285 whichever is lower.

Assuming everyone is wearing a paintball mask that is

I would most likely be jumping in with the speedsofters, they all use paintball masks. I would never take it on the field if players were not wearing paintball masks. Most of the local players do wear paintball masks, since we had a player wearing approved Airsoft goggles have a pellet some how get between the seal and the skin and get lodged in the corner of his eye. That was a trip to the hospital to get that removed.
The Airsoft scene at the paintball/Airsoft field is very laid back, they don't take themselves to seriously. The Airsoft specific field in the area is way too uptight about the tactical side of things.
Regarding the velocity, stick with the 230 fps that the reball fields used.

This all just seems crazy to me. The safety stuff that was worked out in the late 80s with paintball apparently doesn’t seem to be relevant to airsofters. When you do get injuries the statistical data on them is going to be useless because everyone is running whatever random crap they want. There’s no way I’d set foot in a game like that and no way would my kid. In addition to the cheating and the cosplaying its a beta test for safety, how wonderful!

Isn't there an industry group or something? Before there was an autococker there was a barrel plug, know what I mean? Did that step just get skipped?
