    Expired Carbon Fiber Tanks, repurpose?

So, I have a couple old Carbon Fiber tanks that have expired beyond Rehydro. 20+ years old and older.

Has anyone found a way to repurpose these? I remember people converting them into coffee/beer mugs.

Anyway, would like to see if I can repurpose these in any way or have a fun project with them.

    Repurpose them into the garbage.

Personally I would not drink out of an epoxy resin and raw aluminum bottle that has had years of contaminants forcefully put into it.

I have made gun stands out of them but cutting them can be a bit of a pain in the ass.

Yea that makes perfect sense, doesn't sound like something a person should be drinking out of. I assumed there was some sort of liner mug that was inserted inside the tank.

Drill a hole in it so it can never be used again, and toss it.

We for some reason as PB players do not like to throw things out it seems like, I mean some of this stuff is expensive but tbh drill a hole in it, pull the regulators, and just toss them

Me personally IV always wanted to make one a piggy bank

Yeah I figured keep the reg on, cut a slit somewhere at the top and drill a hole in the bottom with a plug and then just sit it on a stand, I think it's a dope idea seeing as some of these tanks have graphics on them

A lamp is a killer idea. I'm gonna do that with one of my tanks.

That's neat, how did you do it, we should keep a thread with stuff like this in it so others can make stuff from old tanks seeing as people ask this all the time, and every time they ask how you made the lamp 😂

I would guess that cutting these is a bitch though, probably bad fumes and I would guess the carbon might splinter and fly everywhere?

I want more information on this. This is actually well done. Is the regulator just gutted, and holes drilled in the bottom of the tank for wiring?

I personally feel it's reasonable case to use a tank that's a bit past 15yrs at home, if you know your risks and have means to fill them. I have a few around. But yea, don't rock them as your field tank.

I also think tank-related risks from user error, bad equipment practice, and compromised field air supply far exceed the risk of a 17 year old tank that's lived a very pampered life exploding spontaneously.

I do test all my certifiable tanks ---- then I go to a local field and they don't check tanks and have feedlines that dribble oily moisture.

IV had that thought myself, I wouldn't use my old tank at the field, it still has another 5 years on it but I'll probably never rehydro it so I thought about just using it at home, not like I can get max pressure filling it with a hand pump for testing markers
