Stock/ Tank Holder

[automeister]

Anyone out there know what the name of this stock set up is? I would like one similar and don't know much about them. I would like one that has a built in tank setup.

California style or something like that, some tank rings will go on different style stocks if I remember correctly

[$L!mBo]

i made a couple like this from aluminum

[automeister]

Do you have any more? Or even just the rings?

[$L!mBo]

are you coming to the event on the 13th at Taneytown? ill bring this one with me and we can go over the details

[automeister]

I might be able to make it, if not I can prob get to the next one a cousin's in VA.

That's old school, with the thermo-valve tank. But not uncommon back in the day even after the advent of Schraeder valves. There were several brand names offering them.
I can't say there was any particular "name" for the setup other than stock mounted.

And other styles, that used a sleeve instead of rings.
Plus, the ones used on the Sheridan K style wooden stocks and in the pile is a set of tank rings made to fit a standard bar stock, making the length adjustable.

Thanks for this info! What size tank does the one with the holes accommodate? How does it hold the tank in there?

[$L!mBo]

ive heard them called
"california style"

DocsMachine has made L and T Stocks in the past not sure if he is still up for making any again. As said this is a Cali-Style L-Stock my favorite setup. Below is a WIP with a Cali-Style stock that I happen to have up for sale I pieced together. Not many players use stocks anymore but they exist in collectors' hoards or forgotten in boxes. Lots of them were made by individuals or garage airsmiths in ages past. The one in your image looks a lot likes like a LAPCO stock though usually the tank ring is one solid piece instead of 2 separate rings. In the past you could get similar ones from LAPCO, TASO, Sumo Marketing, AGS,....etc or some local fabricator.

I never understood the point of this setup. Why not just bolt an ASA on an use the tank as the stock. I get why it was done back in the day with the thermo valve. But I don’t understand it today using modern HPA tanks. It’s heavier and larger I can see it getting hung up on things hanging off the bottom.

I get wanting to use HPA I just don’t see the benefit of mounting it this way.

Nothing against anyone that wants what they want just because. Just generally curious why someone would choose this setup over just using the tank as a stock. It’s not like you get around using an ASA it’s likely more expensive to setup to and harder to remove if you want to convert it back to CO2. It’s got to balence out the same / similar and thoes new tanks are super lightweight (I love them)

What am I missing.

Grendle yours looks like it’s on a pin pull. Do you just remove the stock all together when you play SC? Or do most Phantom owners set there Phantoms for HPA and leave them. Unconcerned about converting back and forth. My favorite thing about the Phantom is how easy it converts back and forth.

I personally run a 9ci 3k @825 psi off the front of the vert on cold days for HPA conversion it’s perfect for 150 shots on a hot fill. I dont put a feedneck on mine much if ever.

No I get why they were run during the thermo tank era. I’m talking today. Seems like a lot of extra steps and effort to do the same thing differently. I guess the OP question wasn’t Phantom specific I just seen a bunch posted setup that way. OP could just be looking to moderize and old build.

The NW Quick Disconnect is there for the purpose of going straight Stock Class. The intention is to modify a CO2 Cartridge dummy for hard line to an on/off for the bottle. Yet to be done but the details all worked out just need the Dummy CO2 cartridge to show up and me get off my lazy butt to finish. That being said I am still in search of a CCI L-Stock to use with this setup when in pure stock mode. I like stocks functionally and aesthetically.

As to why this setup or a Cali-Style setup it is right up there with building an Autococker today, preference and nostalgia. If you want to go down road of pure performance efficiency and ergonomics we'd all be playing with EMEKs but they really have no soul and are boring. Sure I could do the same thing with a bottom line ASA and a bottle off the back. If you could see my collection of markers you would see many configured that way. Back when I started playing Cali-Style setups were "the thing" partly out of necessity partly out of the aesthetic. On a personal level I love the ergonomics of a well built Cali-style setup. Using a small HPA bottle as a stock is a compromise in ergonomics for me and the little weight added by using a stock has little impact on the markers feel. I have never been obsessed with having a light marker cutting ounces has never really been necessary. I guess that is because for a long time I shot a Piranha LB with an AGD Six-Pak and an Indian Springs Maxi-Loader. Not what you would call a light marker so everything since then has been measured against that setup.

Sorry brother re read what I wrote came off like a dick i actually really like your setup.. sorry brother if you felt I was attacking yah

Get a Doc L stock and use a 2” roll bar whip mount. Two holes maybe counter sink them a lil spaced how you want the tank mounted. Bolt them up with some nice bugle head stainless. They are made out of aluminum so you could anodize them to match. Or just leave them black.

Thanks for the tip!

[Walker]

This one is adjustable.......

They hold tanks that are 2" in diameter

[Grendel]

That looks like one PPS used to sell.

[Walker]

Another adjustable, but without a tank holder:
