So I got out my Blade....

Sometimes ya just gotta do something fun.

Been working the proverbial hindquarters off lately, and after finishing up a project this afternoon, I decided to have a bit of that fun. I took one of my "Bull Barrel" blanks, and turned it into a... Blade Bull.

Like my regular Bulls, it takes XL inserts and 'classic' tips- I think we can safely say this is THE only XL Freak barrel- and a good chance the only Freak barrel, period- ever made for the old Greenwell Blade.

Anybody want it? I figured I'd toss it in with the next black-anno batch, and it's yours for the price of one of my regular Bulls. ($90 plus shipping.)

And, in case there's two such lunatics out there, or even, Lord help us, three, I'd be happy to make more.

Does the reversible breech on yours shift around a lot?

That was the big issue on the one I used to have. The weight of the hopper would inevitably pull it to the side regardless of how tight I got the screws, and once it had moved it would pinch the bolt and operation would cease. It was very difficult to get through an entire game with that thing.

I've never actually fired paint out of this thing.

A customer gave it to me a jillion years ago- as I recall, Greenwell's company sent it to him because he was going to do an article for PCRI Magazine, but before he could, the company closed down. He had it, unfired, for probably ten years before sending it to me, and I've had it about 20.

I've gassed it up twice, I think- once right when I got it- and it's been dry fired less than half a dozen times in total.

On that note, though, I did have a customer ask me, not too long ago, about making a centerfeed breech block, which would be easily possible. Not sure why that never happened- he might have lost interest or I was too busy to follow up.

That was actually me who asked you about a center feed breech....it was 2018 or 2019 I think? I used it in my first games against OpusX & nobbie333. At the time you were too busy to follow up (with far more worthy projects as we have seen!), then after several months of silence the completely unthinkable happened. I was actually offered real, not fake, money for it. In a plot twist that still confuses me, the amount offered was actually more then I had paid for it too! 😂

So anyway I sold it. It was a gnarly blowback for sure, but the whole breech/bolt/detent situation was so bad that figured your silence meant it wasn't worth fixing. Especially since the pro-lite was from the same era, and is cheap, plentiful, and actually works...

Unfortunately that happens- time has always been in short supply, and I can only wish I had enough to do all the cool things and fun projects that cross my path.

Well, maybe the new unsuspecting schmu... er, lucky new owner would be interested in a shiny new, one-of-a-kind Freak barrel for it.

That’s probably worth more than the blade itself, but tempting nonetheless.
